In 2014, Jill Zmud delivered her first child, and mere weeks later she released her sophomore album Small Matters of Life and Death. And that album nabbed Jill her first Canadian Folk Music Awards nomination for Contemporary Album of the Year. The soulful, rootsy album weaves together loss, hope, and a 40-year-old reel-to-reel tape that Jill discovered in her parents Saskatchewan basement. That dusty reel-to-reel belonged to Jills musician uncle, Eddy Clynton, who died in a car accident before Jill ever met him. Jill used that discovery as inspiration for an album that explores our connections to those who have gone before us. Produced by Juno-winner Steve Dawson at The Tragically Hips Bathouse Studio, the album features Jim Cuddy who duets with Jill on her Uncle Eds New Jersey Turnpike, Nashville gospel greats The McCrary Sisters Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, bassist Brian Kobayakawa, drummer Gary Craig and pianist Steve OConnor.

JACK PINE AND THE FIRE 10PM
The jack pine is not your average tree. It sheds its seeds within a pinecone, like other pines, but the cone itself remains sealed until its seed is finally set free by the extreme heat of a forrest fire. In short, it thrives while everything around it dies. Jack Pine and The Fire, featuring the music of Ottawa singer/songwriter/producer Gareth Auden-Hole Jack Pine, evokes that very same theme of finding direction in chaos. On tape and on stage, the bands fingers strike acoustic strings with rare power and intensity, weaving intricate rhythms through striking melodies while Jack Pines voice, as sweet as it is raw, soars above the roaring Fire.

SCATTERED CLOUDS 11PM
Scattered Clouds is a dark, experiential, post apocalyptic rock group from Hull Qubec led by bassist, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Philippe Charbonneau Hilotrons, Her Harbour. Since its inception in 2010 and the release of a self-titled EP on Charbonneaus and frequent collaborator Olivier Fairfields FET.NAT, H. de Heutz, Last Ex E-Tron Records,Scattered Clouds has evolved from a solo home studio project to a performing act that creates a trance inducing, orchestral and intense cinematic experience. Blending harsh yet controlled sounds, brooding rhythms, slap-back baritone vocals, unsettling analog synthesizer sounds and a strong sense of form and dynamics, Scattered Clouds music resonates somewhere between pop songs and the spirit of experimental noise. The First Empire is the groups first full length release and is out on E-Tron Records April 21st 2015.

THE YIPS 12AM
Since 2012, The Yips have become a staple within Ottawa's formidable garage/punk scene. Drawing stylistic comparisons to artists as diverse as Karen O and Jesus and the Mary Chain, their self described "ouija rock" is unmistakably a product of their own sonic creation. Releasing of their second EP via local label Bruised Tongue Records, the hauntingly titled Air Loom reflects stylistic development from their eponymous 2013 debut, but certainly not a departure. Appearances at the 2014 instalments of NXNE, Ottawa Explosion, Arboretum Music Festival and Pop Montreal have helped to broaden their audience in tandem with regular summer rotation on CBC Radio 3 and an Exclaim! video premiere for the single Point Dume. With dates scheduled for Eastern Canada this spring, festival appearances over the summer, and plans to record their first full length shortly thereafter, the Yips seem poised for a break out year in 2015.
