Lisa Johnsons solo exhibition Metamorphosis is an evolution of enquiries into space and movement within the context of landscape painting. Johnson is fascinated with art history, drawing upon the techniques of past masters from Rubens and de Kooning to Soutine and Tom Thompson. Through her ethereal and sculptural use of pigment Johnson depicts vast landscapes where forms and figures seem to poetically emerge. Drawing inspiration from on-location studies to develop large studio works, her paintings weave geographic, corporeal, and abstract sensibilities through layers of atmospheric grounds and gestural mark making. Her work speaks to the passage of time over landscapes painted with spirit and musicality.

Lisa Johnson graduated with Honours from the Ontario College of Art and Design, where she also won the prestigious Mrs. W.O. Forsythe Award for 4th year women painters in 1996. Johnson studied under sculptor Tom Dean and most recently with Harold Klunder.

Lisa Johnsons work has been shown in solo and group shows throughout Ontario and can be found in numerous private and corporate collections in the Canada, U.S.A., and Europe.

"She is a modern romantic poised halfway between the world of purely painterly dreams and visions of grand mysterious Canadian places." --Robert Kameczura, Big Shoulder's Magazine
