Griots & Scribes: Festival of the Arts

On Saturday, December 6th and Sunday, December 7th, 2014, Accents Bookstore, will be hosting “Griots and Scribes: Festival of the Arts” at Artscape Wychwood Barns complex (601 Christie Street, Toronto). This two-day festival will celebrate the literary, artistic, culinary and musical creativity of the multicultural, multiethnic and incredibly diverse community that is Toronto. Based at Artscape Wychwood Barns, in the spatial and artistic heartof the city, the festival promises to showcase the inspirational works of local and international authors, artists, craft makers, poets, musicians and a wide variety of artistes, as well as workshops on creative writing, story-telling and the vocal arts. In addition, this year, “Griots and Scribes” will honour the life, art and contributions of Lillian Allen, Juno-award winning dub poet, professor, mentor and a stalwart of the artistic scene in Toronto.

On Saturday, December 6th, “Griots and Scribes: Festival of the Arts” will offer a multi-level, concurrent series of events, from 3:00pm-8:00pm and will culminate in a performance by Lillian Allen and a roundtable discussion about her work called “The Lillian Allen Revolutionary Tea Party”, between 8:00pm-10:30pm.

On Sunday, December 7th, the festival will offer a focus on visual, musical and performing artists, craft makers, authors and the providers of a variety of services, between 2:00pm-7:00pm, and will be brought to its conclusion with a Guitar concert "Spirit of Travel" with award winning Guitarist Jeff Gunn and “Spirit of the Season” music theatrical performance with No String Theater.
