GRAVITONS w BRODIE WEST + STEVE KADO w ENSEMBLE

Gravitons with Brodie West

Nearly a decade deep, Gravitons have combined Jill Astons scorching free noise guitar that cant settle on a fret and Mani Mazinanis free jazz drums that dance and kick and roll and crash without ever settling down on any grooves. Joining Gravitons for the first time will be the illustrious Brodie West on alto saxophone. Wests intimate knowledge of the alto, and the infinite creativity embedded in his compositions and improvisations, have altered Torontos musical landscape. This duet Gravitons counting as a single musical unit accompanied by West, is the last performance before a hiatus for Gravitons, who expect to be on maternity leave next year or, does that make it a quartet?.

Steve Kado with Ensemble

2003 was more than a decade ago, and a particular year for Steve Kado. So particular, that all of his music compositions share the title 2003. Kado constructs fields of notes using structural strategies of first-generation minimalism with aesthetic references to post-punk phrasing. The 2003 ensemble, consisting of several Toronto creative music luminaries, will play with Kado, in a unique performance, introducing some new instrumentation to the mix.
