Good To Be Good - Charity Drive Event

When we do good, we feel good.

How do we exercise our 'good' muscles and work jointly for a greater impact in driving change in the world we inhabit? One act of kindness at a time. When we cultivate sincere generosity and kindness without expectation of reward or reciprocity, we inadvertently discover the great paradox that underlies fuller human flourishing - in the giving of self lies the surprising discovery of a happier and healthier life. So by doing 'unto others' we not only help those in need, we help ourselves. Above and beyond, we are all connected and no life is separate from another. No matter how big or small the act is, everything we do as an individual affects the whole.

Over the past few months, I've noticed an increase in homelessness in our city. Especially in the East End of Toronto where I work. I look at their beautiful faces and recognize that they are just like us - mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, children, dreamers, story-tellers, people in need of love. The difference is that they settle on the streets scared, impoverished and living a life of privation. We can't let this continue; we shouldn't tolerate growing streaks of poverty and the sad plight of the vulnerable. It is our duty as privileged citizens to take care of those at home and in our community. Consequently, encouraging me to adhere to my philanthropic responsibilities by starting this charity drive.

By bringing a few non perishable items on September 1st, you not only contribute towards helping the needy, you also take a stand for meaningful and lasting change. All in kind gift donations will serve as admission to a special evening and be given to the Red Door Family Shelter. RDFS is a fantastic organization whose fruitful goals are to break the cycle of homelessness, provide to those in crisis and build a community of faith and brighter futures.

They offer shelter for all walks of life - especially women in unimaginable situations. I have been deeply inspired by these amazing women who found the courage and strength to risk everything to keep their children safe by turning to the Red Door Family Shelter for immediate relief and assistance. They are women who have survived and conquered unfortunate circumstances such as domestic violence, eviction, dangerous housing, refugee affairs, poverty and made significant differences in our world. In the face of their obstacles, they still possess a backbone of steel and more importantly, a heart full of gold and unequivocal love that never tires. They are the eyes of true optimism and hope. These women are my heroes.

This evening is for them. And for those who are in need the most. Hope to see you there! Let's do some GOOD together. :)
