From Bespoke to Branded: Shoemaking in the 19th Century

Curious to learn about the beginnings of the modern shoe industry? Don't miss your chance to spend an afternoon at the BSM with Senior Curator Elizabeth Semmelhack as she presents "Bespoke to Branded: Shoemaking in the 19th Century". During this illustrated lecture and tour, Semmelhack will discuss the move from traditional shoemaking to factory-made footwear in the 19th century and the impact of the industrial revolution on the shoe industry. Sharing her thoughts on today’s ever-changing shoe industry, Semmelhack will also address how we think about and buy our own footwear. The talk will be followed by a guided tour of "Fashion Victims: The Pleasures and Perils of Dress in the 19th Century". Tickets available now on our website.
