FIGHT BACK: Sex Workers Respond to C36
December 6th, 2014 marks the date that Bill C-36 becomes law. This Bill was introduced by the Harper government in response to the unanimous supreme court decision that deemed the contested prostitution related provisions as UNCONSTITUTIONAL as they create MORE harms to sex workers and those that love them.
This year on December 17th International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers we are recognizing the violence that will be recreated and that it will increase state violence and cost more sex workers lives.
In response, a coalition of sex workers and sex worker organizations including: Maggie's: Toronto Sex Workers Action Project, COUNTERfit Womens Harm Reduction Program, Queen West Community Health Centre, Bad Date Coalition, Sex Professional of Canada and others, have come together to share information and to support each other as Bill C36 becomes law.
We will also talk about how sex worker activists and allies are continuing to fight for the rights and wellbeing of sex workers in Toronto, including a new campaign for municipal non-enforcement.
Come learn more about C36 and how we can continue to support and protect one another under a criminalized system.
