Often called the successor to Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane, Brandee Younger is a versatile young harpist who has created a unique niche for the harp in both traditional and non-traditional contexts. Younger is best recognized for working with jazz royalty and Grammy-winning hip-hop producers and artists.

A classically trained harpist, Younger received her undergraduate degrees in Harp Performance and Music Business at the Hartt School of Music in West Hartford, Connecticut, where she was also mentored by the faculty of the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz and African American Studies.

As a classical musician, Younger has been a featured soloist with The Harlem Chamber Players. Younger has also performed with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony, Waterbury Symphony, Soulful Symphony, Ensemble Du Monde, Camerata New York and the Red Bull Artsehcro, a “non-conformist” orchestra.

Her jazz and hip hop credits are impressive. Younger has worked & recorded with a number of jazz luminaries including Jack DeJohnette, Ravi Coltrane, Charlie Haden, Reggie Workman, Kenny Garrett, Rashied Ali, Butch Morris and Bill Lee. In hip-hop, she has worked with Drake, Common and Talib Kweli, among many others.

Joined by an acoustic bassist, Younger’s Toronto debut – co-presented with Jason Palma’s ever-fresh Higher Ground Radio show – shouldn’t be missed by devotees of spiritual and soulful jazz!

Matthew “Doc” Dunn has a truly global musical sensibility. His concise and imaginative playing has graced music by MV&EE, Andy Haas and Transcendental Rodeo. At times blissful, occasionally menacing and always searching for new sounds, Dunn’s most recent release, All Is, was described by Weird Canada as an “expedition into the inner cosmos”. For this occasion, he expands All Is into a full band format featuring Kieran Adams, Jonathan Adjemian, Carl Didur, Mike Smith and Brandon Valdivia.
