August Strindberg's Easter, Produced by Naught, A Theatre Company
Spring is coming. The ice is finally melting in the streets and in our hearts. The Heyst family has been consumed with pride and shame, but these will be torn from them, no matter how hard they cling. Naught, A Theatre Company, presents Easter, a lesser-known work by the brilliant turn-of-the-century Swedish playwright August Strindberg. Easter is the story of the changing of the seasons, of moving towards the light, of learning to embrace change. It is filled with beautiful language and characters who are caught up in spiritual agony and ecstasy: sometimes both at once. Directed by William Rasitsan-Powell, the show will open Friday April 25th, 2014 and run until Saturday May 3rd, 2014 at The Box Toronto, a new and exciting space in Toronto.
Easter features an energetic and risk-taking cast, starring Mathieu Burdan, Stephanie Seaton, Eva Barrie, Addison Becker, Jamie Johnson and Margaret Hild.
Easter is the second production by Naught, A Theatre Company, which is committed to producing spiritual and metaphysical pieces that seek to breathe new life into the theatre. The company was founded in 2013 by husband and wife duo William and Beata Rasitsan-Powell. Their first production was William's play Something Is Wrong, in the summer of 2013. Easter is a chance for the company to develop its mandate and to broaden it to include existing works that inspire the moving, spiritual experience that the company wants to bring to audiences.
