Art Spin August Tour
Art Spin August 24th - The Port Lands
2017 Season along the waterfront: portage to portlands
Join us to wrap up our 9th season of curated bicycle-led art tours across Toronto on Thursday, August 24th by presenting four newly commissioned, site-specific works around the Toronto Port Lands, presented in partnership with Waterfront Toronto.
With Lake Ontarios water levels along Torontos waterfront at record highs, eroding beaches, and threatening human made barriers that try to contain this massive freshwater sea, Art Spin has chosen to focus this summers programming in and around the citys waterfront.
Art Spins 2017 programming has stretched from the Humber River in the west in June, all the way to the Don River and the Port Lands in the east, exploring both the citys troubled relationship to its lake and the exciting ways in which that relationship is evolving.
As part of the thrill and mystery of the Art Spin experience, specific details about the programming and their locations will be kept secret until the day of each individual tour. The upcoming Port Lands tour will feature new works by the Deaf Culture Centre, a dance performance by Erin Poole and Christianne Ullmark, and a project by Vanessa Brazeau presented in partnership with Myseum of Toronto. Along the course of the tour attendees can also experience a nomadic project by our artist in roving residency Daniel Rotsztain, as well as musical accompaniment from DJ General Eclectic and his Boom Bike. The tour will be led by the ever affable and vivacious emcee Shamez Amlani.
Art Spins Port Lands tour meets at 6:30pm on Thursday, August 24th at Corktown Common 155 Bayview Ave. just east of the Distillery District.
Tickets $10 must be purchased in advance online before the start of the event. Tickets are limited so be sure to get yours before they run out! Children 12 and under ride free.

The final stop and afterparty for the Art Spin tour will be at our latest curated exhibition Desire Lines, featuring a live musical performance by T.Dot BANGERZ Brass, presented in partnership with CDR, followed by choice selections by DJ General Eclectic. Food will be provided by Travelling Chicken.
Art Spin will also be presenting, in partnership with Waterfront Toronto, a free and exciting group exhibition titled Desire Lines, showcasing the work of some of our most notable regional artists presenting artwork from a wide variety of disciplines. This exhibition will be responding to themes that deal with the highly nuanced dynamic of place making and what constitutes the concept of home, as well as exploring our complex and storied relationship to our waterfront. This exhibition will take place a massive 8000 sqft. warehouse at 291 Lake Shore Boulevard East.
It will open with a reception on Thursday, August 24th at 7pm and gallery hours will run from 12pm - 8pm Wednesday - Saturday, and 12 - 6pm on Sundays, until September 3rd.
Artists include: Paul Chartrand, Nicole Clouston, Naomi Dodds, Anna Eyler, Chris Foster, Young & Giroux, Alex McLeod, Daniel Rotsztain, Jessica Thalmann, VSVSVS. More artists to be announced. Visit www.artspin.ca/desire-lines for more information.
For the safety and enjoyment of our audience, Art Spin is a fairweather event. Our official rain date for the August 24th tour is Thursday August 31st. Ticketholders will be notified day-of in case of any rescheduling due to weather.
