2015 TD Then & Now presents Black History Month at Mackenzie House

Visit the Mackenzie House print shop on weekends in February to print a personalized copy of The Provincial Freeman, the first newspaper to be published by a woman of colour in Canada. Newspapers are printed on an 1845 Washington Press. Mary Ann Shadd Cary was a teacher, an anti-slavery activist and a ground breaking editor. In her words, she had “broken the editorial ice.” A tour of the Mackenzie House is included with admission.

Date(s): Saturdays and Sundays in February, 12-5pm; Family Day Monday February 16, 12-5pm.
