A Little Dose of Reuse

Posted by Jerrold Litwinenko / April 20, 2007

20070420_reuse.jpgOne of the "three R's" (reduce, reuse, recycle) smacked me in the face yesterday, when I was window shopping on Lakeshore near Islington Avenue in south Etobicoke.

Although the CanWest free daily Dose stopped printing last year, it's great to see that this newspaper stand didn't end up in a landfill and instead is being used as an umbrella sales stand.

What might be even more amazing, however, is where I found this...

20070420_reuse2.jpgI didn't even know Bi-way still existed!! Apparently the Lakeshore location is one of three remaining Bi-Way stores in southern Ontario (according to a quick Google Maps business search).

Oh, and yes, they still sell no-name sneakers presumably made in some sweat shop in Asia (how else can they sell for $4?!).

Want to see another blast from the past in Long Branch? There's a Variety store that still has the Toronto Evening Telegram logo on its store sign!

LOLOL- Good ol' BiWay... My brother worked there as a teen, and he got so much flack for it! According to his bullies, BiWay was the department store for the trashiest of trash.

But really, where else could you buy some Jiffy-Pop, a six pack of Fresca and a case of 10 blank cassette tapes, all for under $10?!?
