American Thanksgiving

9 restaurants serving American Thanksgiving in Toronto

American Thanksgiving celebrations in Toronto are a bit of a strange art form. Our own Thanksgiving has come and gone, and most of us are eating healthy until we indulge over the holidays. But, if you're an expat craving a turkey dinner or just can't wait to fill up on mashed potatoes and stuffing, there are a bunch of restaurants giving thanks with food, football and merriment.

Here are my picks for places to celebrate American Thanksgiving in Toronto this year.

Allen's
On November 24 starting at noon this Danforth pub serves Thanksgiving dinner with lovely twists like quinoa roasted sweet potato, corn cakes and turkey with smoked bacon. It's $48.50 a person, unless you want wine paired with your meal for costs $70.

Blake House
The coziest place on Jarvis, which also features a great fireplace, celebrates American Thanksgiving with a full turkey roast and all the trimmings from November 24 to Sunday 27. Dinner's on from 5 p.m. onward.

Globe Bistro
Globe Bistro on the Danforth has a three-course deal for $39 a person from 5 p.m. onwards on November 24, but beware, this dinner sells out and at press time, there are only later seatings available. This meal features a super salad, veggie pasta dish and traditional turkey.

Hemingway's
Yorkville's multi-floor drink-plex serves a full-blown Thanksgiving dinner from November 24 to 27 starting from 11 a.m. until midnight. That's turkey dinner, stuffing and pumpkin pie all for $17.99. Expect NFL on TV with the volume pumping on the second floor.

The Loaded Dog
This Lawrence Avenue East spot shows football all day long starting at 12:30 p.m. alongside beer specials, a thanksgiving turkey sandwich for $9, and $6 apps between 4 and 6 p.m. The only way you'll get quality family time at this event is if you're the kind of family that bonds best in front of giant flat screens.

Pearttree Restaurant
This Cabbagetown haunt serves a three-course turkey dinner with all the traditional trimmings from 5 to 11 p.m on Thursday, November 24 only. It'll be playing football on TV, so it makes of a nice casual dining experience with sports and piles of food. The full spread will cost you $24.99 and there's a private party solarium if you want to bring a big group.

The Salty Dog
People really, really seem to like what The Salty Dog does for American Thanksgiving. They show the football games starting at Noon on November 24 and serve their $11.99 Thanksgiving dinner deal starting at 5 p.m. They'll also have trivia and live music from The Boyd Band.

Southern Accent
This Mirvish Village Cajun kitchen serves its annual Turducken dinner on Thursday, November 24. The $38 prix fix menu features a bird, within a bird, within a bird. This is a yearly tradition at the Markham Street restaurant and dinner starts at 4 p.m.

Triple A bar
The dimly lit Texas BBQ restaurant serves up American Thanksgiving with a whole lotta meaty goodness Sunday November 27 and Monday November 28. Expect ribs and brisket served alongside more traditional fare at all three locations. They'll be serving stuffin' and friend brussels sprouts with smoked turkey for $18.
