Toronto bars, pubs, late night eats (now an iPhone app)

Posted by Tim / February 13, 2013

Late night eats TorontoToday we're excited to announce the release of our newest iPhone app. Following in the footsteps of our main blogTO app and our summer patio guide app we now have a third app to add to our roster: the Toronto bars, pubs and late night eats app.

As the name suggests, this new app, sponsored by Questrade, is intended to serve as your go-to guide for a night out in Toronto. The app not only includes photos and need-to-know details about hundred of locals bars and pubs but it's the first app that we know of that helps you satisfy those 3am hunger cravings after last call.

Here's a complete rundown of what we've packed into the app:

  • Photos and info for hundreds of bars, pubs and late night eat spots in Toronto
  • Call, map and get directions at the touch of a button
  • Look up places by nearby, neighbourhood or venue type (bar, pub, nightclub, karaoke bar, late night eat etc.)
  • View complete hours of operation for each business
  • Search for places based on what's open right now, open today or open tomorrow
  • See what beer is on tap, what hour the kitchen closes, and whether the place has live music or a patio
  • Filter search results based on whether the place has live music, a patio, serves pitchers of beer or has beer on tap
  • Look up places by keyword search
  • Can't decide where to go? "Shake" the phone for a suggestion
  • Connect the app with your Facebook account and blogTO user profile
  • Create a list of your favourite places for easy access
  • Share places in the app via Twitter, Facebook, email and SMS

And here are some screenshots so you can know what to expect.

The screen on the left shows the different ways you can find a bar, pub or late night eat spot. You can search by name, filter results by neighbourhood, opening time as well as additional options (under More Options). Tapping the Reset button will set all your filters back to the original/default state. The screen on the right shows the results. From this screen you can tap on a photo/place for more details.Pubs TorontoAnd these screens show the details for a specific bar, pub or late night eat spot.Bars Toronto

Best of all, the app is free. Go download it now and let us know what you think of it in the comments below.

For now there's only an iPhone version. We hope to support Android and other mobile operating systems in the future.

When? 2020?
You still haven't come out with an Android version of your BlogTO app.... For over a year you've had a banner on your homepage saying it's coming soon. Guess we have differing definitions of "Soon"........

Loosemoose isn't on the new app?? Newly reno'd with the largest craft beer selection in TO, that's def app worthy..

And no Wheat Sheaf?? Oldest pub in TO, the place is wicked. The new app looks great but you gotta include the best pubs! (I did see Bar Wellington ;)

We're going to be continually adding places. Both of these will be in the app within the week.

Yeah, Colin, this list does not represent the largest craft beer selection in Toronto (it's maybe half decent, and would have a little more clout if Bud Light wasn't on there). See Volo, The Only Cafe, and Bar Hop for a real craft beer selection.

Oh and this app helped me find my way to the bar tonight, and taught me some new places for late night eats. Love it.

Last time i checked, Android has a way bigger market share then iOS.
I do not understand why app developers continue on making apps for iOS first and then Android? I guess they don't like money.

Because of the huge variety of Android devices it's a lot more costly and complex to create apps for Android compared to iOs.

Wow blogTO! Thank you this is one seriously awesome app!

Well, this is not entirely true. If you know what you are doing, it doesn't matter whether Android or iOS, because you know what the lowest common denominator is.

And by all means, these apps are not highly sophisticated. They show a few pictures, text fields and access some APIs. You can do that on a Commodore 64.

I'm sorry, I hope I didn't offend anyone, but there is no excuse for not having an Android app. Apps like this can be done in a few hours.

There are lots of clubs that are still open past 3:00 AM that the app doesn't list. This app would be so amazing with that info.

Can you give me some specific examples of the places you're referring to? Thanks

One establishment listed for Leslieville?? Why launch and advertise an app before it has any content? Lame.

There are a lot of places included in Leslieville. You must have been looking up places with too strict criteria or that were closed during the time you were using the app.

This app doesn't seem to work at all on my phone. It doesn't give me any options in the drop-down menus to select neighbourhoods or types of establishments or anything. Also, if I click 'Shake it!', it says, "Sorry, we can't shake something out of an empty pot. Try change your filters."

Is there some kind of bug?

Can you please try re-installing it? We think there might have been an issue during download. If that doesn't resolve the issue for you please let me know. Thanks

Good post. I learn something totally new and challenging on websites I stumbleupon
every day. It will always be useful to read content from
other authors and practice a little something from their sites.
