Anti-Rob Ford campaign posters pop up in Toronto

Posted by Chris Bateman / March 31, 2014

Anti Rob Ford Campaign SignVote Jeff McElroy - he'll still smoke himself into a stupor, but promises he won't use crack cocaine. Three spoof campaign signs that appeared in Trinity Bellwoods Park this morning are promising a new kind of awful mayor, albeit one who's marginally more benign than the incumbent.

No Ford Nation, a non-profit group that claims to be independent of any city hall campaign, says their fictional candidates - if these people are serious about making a run for mayor, they haven't filed nomination papers yet - will keep drinking (in private,) smoking (but only pot), and urinating all over the city (but on the sly).

The group also released a series of three cartoons late last week set to real Rob Ford audio.

Here's a slice of the online reaction to the signs.

Ahhh it was Trinity Bellwoods now it makes sense.

It's well known that many people go to Bellwoods Park to hang out and drink beer illegally, smoke mary jane, and when they have to go to the bathroom many of the guys go in the bushes. These are the complaints of area residents. Are these signs supposed to be making fun of the very behavior people enjoy Bellwoods Park for?

Agree with some of the Twitter commenters, these signs would make more sense in Etobicoke or North York. A sign on a bus shelter at Kipling and Albion that mentions how he emptied a full TTC bus to transport his football team would be much more effective.

Olivia Chow spouts on about how Mayor Ford isn't a good role model for her grandkids. Does she let her grandkids know what Papa Jack was up to at the massage parlours? Ford is a moron but he scares me less then Chow. She's a true Socialist and would do far more harm that Rob Ford has ever done in the past 4 years. Truly i think all the major candidates are losers, but here is hoping that John Tory can put it together and win as he's the best of the worst in my opinion.

I agree that the downtown crowd is so self-absorbed to think putting this in Bellwoods for their own laughs would have any effect. The outer rings (suburbs) still support Ford because regardless of all his antics, he delivered. He gave them tax savings and rapid transit as he promised, and though he gets drunk and gets high he still doesn't effect their daily lives in any negative way. As far as policy goes he has a lot behind him that many whom don't care about his personal troubles will vote on rather then Ford's character.

Your speaking to a bunch of people that know nothing of city politics they just know they want "fatty" out so they're trying creative ways to communicate with each other. It's so exciting this is their first election and they are solely judging on character and personal troubles and not policy. I still see no one on here talking about any great policies from any of the other candidates, maybe that's cause they don't really care, or don't understand politics. I guess that's why their slogan is "Anyone's better than Rob Ford" so they don't have to actively get behind any other candidates cause they don't care as long as its not Ford.

Some food for thought for the downtown crowd. This is the exact type of behavior that is going to get Ford in.

Its the childish petulance, our-farts-dont-stink, we know better than everyone attitude that permeates from downtown.

Outside of the 40+ year olds who never grew up and still live in the core, riding skateboards and smoking pot, most mature successful working adults, will not want to identify with this type of behavior.

Its hysterical that you find it hysterical that Ford supporters are getting all Law & Order over the signs.

I find it even *more* hysterical that it was the anti-Ford crowd who cooked up the ridiculous CoI lawsuit against Ford, then threatened to sue Ford for making some ridiculous insinuation about Daniel Dale, and now their glorious leader Kathleen Wynne is threatening to sue because Hudak hurt her feelings.

You must find these incidences, equally or more hilarious than you find Ford supporters getting angry? No?

These signs do not look like a hipster made them. The quality is far to high and would require money.

My money is on Ford himself putting them out. This only helps his poling numbers. Anything negative makes his polling count higher. Something Hipsters and left wings have yet to understand.
You are dropping down to Fords level and he will beat you with experience.

If you want to effect change, put up negative posters about Chow as they would directly be blamed on blob ford himself.

Direct attacks are not working people. Attack Chow and watch her win.

This site is registered to Robert Van De Weghe at Rethink Communications Inc., in British Columbia. Why?

The real question is, who is paying this company? Could it be one of the other mayoral candidates?

Would be nice to see someone with the guts to take on actual important political issues like Wynne and the canceled gas plants/deleted emails, rather than take cheap, tired shots at Ford ad nauseam.

Ford was quite vocal about his dislike of the most recent budget. He didn't like it. And it passed.

What does that tell you about how effective he can be as mayor? He got some positive things done in his first year because he hadn't yet alienated himself so epically, which tends to happen when you continuously say spiteful things about colleagues who happen to disagree with you.

He is unable to work well with others.

And if he didn't cancel Transit City some of those routes would likely be operational now or soon. And keep in mind, cancelling Transit City wasn't free. That cost taxpayers a lot.

It's funny their facebook page was started 2 months after Ford became Mayor - before he "ruined the city " etc. I voted for Smitherman and couldn't believe Ford won. I didn't like him ... But within a couple months of reading non stop attacks and creatively told versions of facts from The Star etc . My opinion changed. Especially after NOW magazine and other made fun of the big fat dumb mayor. I decided to watch a city council meeting . Within 5mins of hearing Adam vaghaun and people from the gallery attack the Fords my feelings completely changed and I supported ford and still do . Ford didn't support Miller or any left leaning policy in his career .. BUT he at least gave them respect , aloud them to speak and didn't write a Collumn everyday attacking his opponents . The moment he was elected - everyone who didn't vote for him decided not to respect rules of democracy and have tried to find every cheap little trick or riddiculous rule to trip him up ... And they jump on any chance to make fun of him. The worse part , people on the left in toronto aren't slick and charming like democrats in the states - they are mouthy pale arrogant bastards who got thrown in lockers in high school and now think they are tough . Despite everything Wrong with Ford I will still support him especially after seeing this riddiculous campaign .. Because at the end of the day ROB AND Doug are not bullies .. People who photoshop him and put up stupid fucking signs like this illegally are bullies .. They are also fucking stupid .. His rating just spiked to 46% according to latest forum research poll .. War on Rob Ford will not work .. Because a candidate should be able to convince me they should be mayor on their own merits - making fun of somebody just tells me your a child who deserves a slap - which will come OCT 27 -
