Rob Ford accused of ordering jailhouse beating

Posted by Chris Bateman / January 29, 2014

rob fordScott MacIntyre, an ex-boyfriend of Rob Ford's sister Kathy, is alleging the mayor ordered a savage jailhouse beating that left him with a broken leg and missing teeth, according to a statement of claim filed this afternoon.

MacIntyre says the attack on March 23, 2012 was intended to keep him from revealing details of the mayor's "drug and alcohol abuse and association with criminals." He also claims the video of Ford uttering violent threats that was bought by the Toronto Star in November is related to the incident.

"Ford became highly agitated that the plaintiff might disclose Ford's unsavoury activities," the statement of claim alleges. "Accordingly, he conspired with [Payman] Aboodowleh [a Don Bosco football coach] to send a firm message to the plaintiff [MacIntyre] to prevent him from doing so. In particular ... Ford and Aboodowleh conspired to have the plaintiff threatened, and subsequently brutally beaten, while he was incarcerated."

Speaking outside Ford's office at City Hall this afternoon, criminal lawyer Dennis Morris said the accusations are "without fact or foundation."

"It's very irresponsible and spurious to say he [was involved,]" Morris said.

MacIntyre, a convicted drug dealer, was accused of shooting Kathy Ford in the face in 2005. Years later, he entered the Ford family home and demanded money, according court transcripts reported in The Star. "You owe me money and your sister owes me money," the court recorded MacIntyre as saying. "If I don't get it they will kill me."

MacIntyre was jailed at the Toronto West Detention Centre as a result of the incident and banned from making contact with the Fords. According to The Star, in March 2012 letters to Kathy Ford and the newspaper were intercepted by prison staff and MacIntyre was beaten several months later by a fellow inmate, who The Globe and Mail identifies as Aedan Petros, "a 300-pound, violent criminal who played defensive tackle for Mr. Ford when he was the coach of the football team at Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School."

The suit also names the Ministry of Correctional Services, whose staff MacIntyre claims facilitated the attack by ensuring "that there was no supervision or surveillance of the area where the plaintiff was assaulted" under the guidance of Ford and Aboodowleh.

A ministry spokesman told the paper an internal investigation into the beating is currently underway.

MacIntyre is seeking $1 million in damages.

None of the allegations contained in the statement of claim have been proven in court.

don't forget that a judge has already said that MacIntyre was targeted for "bothering" Ford....

picking ? it's not picking, it's called reporting. that's what reporters do. deal with it.
Ford's a big boy, let him face the heat.

So a scumbag ahole drug dealer who literally shot another human in the face and demanded money from the family because "If I don't get it THEY will kill me" got beat up by other inmates in prison and we blame Rob Ford? lol ok sure. I am no fan of Ford but give me a break with this garbage.

1) you're taking this guys word when he clearly is not someone you'd want to believe about anything.

2) apparently he owes/owed someone else who is shady money at the risk of his life, who's to say they didn't orchestrate his beating?

Report when Ford actually does something wrong(not a hard thing to do) but don't report tripe like this because he's such a newsmaker. It's lazy.

Usually, I'm so far removed and against from every statement Rob Ford makes but I can see the appeal in wanting to beat the shit out of the dude who shot your sister in the face. For this situation and this situation only, consider me someone who isn't averse to this move.

How about taking a judge's word for it. From the Nov 7, 2013 Sun (linked above):

"Justice Paul French said Scott MacIntyre “was viciously attacked and severely beaten” by inmates on March 12, 2012, in a “jailhouse justice” episode after the former boyfriend of Ford’s sister Kathy sent two letters. French concluded that the beating "was visited upon MacIntyre because of his being a bother to (Mayor) Ford.”

A 300lb, 22 yr old former Don Bosco football player was the ringleader. I'm sure Rob Ford had nothing to do with the beating and this is just a coincidence.

Leave the man alone! This is why he's going to get re-elected. You people are scraping the bottom of the barrel to put him down. This is almost as worst as the dinner invite thing from a couple nights ago. All you negative downtowners make the rest of the mega city sick!
Ford more years!

Ok that's a bit more solid. Especially if a former football player from Ford's team was involved.

Dude is a convicted dealer who shot a woman in the face and tried to extort her family, then he cries foul and sues when he gets a beating in return (allegedly). I think I'll give Ford a pass on this one.

I live in a nice bungalow. I'm pretty sure you live in a cramped rooming house like most of the ford haters downtown. When you grow up and if you ever own YOUR OWN home and pay property tax you will understand why we in mimico support him. Your the loser!

Wow, no wonder Ford still has fans, There are a lot of dumb people out there who don't realize that a) the most expensive houses are in the anti-Ford old city of Toronto; b) the rest of the residents downtown are renters whose rent is used to pay property tax; c) seriously, we get that Ford attracts a low-information, low-intellect crowd but could you please try to improve your (note correct usage) grammar?

That said, I'm less bothered by this lawsuit than by the lies and unbecoming behaviour Ford showed in the budget debate today. For that alone he must go, never mind the crack and all the rest.

Don't forget that most Rob Ford supporters are a bunch of uninformed sheep that would for sure elect anything that would promise to lower taxes. Hire a wooden plank and make it promise to lower taxes, it will win the elections.

Yes, you will save a little bit more money with lowered taxes, but what does lowered taxes mean? Austerity. Cuts on social programs and essential services. His solutions? PRIVATIZATION of public services.

This is the man that promises to lower taxes and always votes against funding for any community resources and social programs... Why would you want to re-elect that? PLUUUUS, he lied to all of your faces.

And no, I am not a downtown folk.. I live in Scarborough.

"a scumbag ahole drug dealer" ? You sure your not talking about Rob Ford?

Doug admitted they dealt drugs "in high school". Fact is they dealt drug for 18 years until they stupidly beat up one of their clients who owed them a large sum of cash. That moronic act got their brother RANDY FORD some jail time.

If more people were like Scott MacIntyre and took a stand against their bullying tactics more of these idiot criminal would be in jail! If you ask me, it's quite obvious all three brothers should be in jail.

There is no convincing the Ford supporters to do otherwise. The bottom line with them is the supposed bottom line, and if they feel they are paying 30 cents less than they did last year they would pledge allegiance.
The problem is that it's all so convoluted into press and "haters", and since they believe Rob is being loyal to his voters, they in turn are loyal to him, but without looking at the big picture. His actions are not bringing a city together in jobs and a growing economy, he's halting it by pitting a against each other in the awful scheme of things. Reality is, he's hard to defend but he's found those who do it anyway. Someone needs to come along that will not only give the taxpayers a reason to look at the big picture (job creation, stimulated economy, a democratic and smooth running city council,) while doing so gracefully instead of making the rest of the world wonder if there's money to be made in Toronto at all, especially if a man like Rob Ford is at the helm.

Ford didn't have Macintyre beat up for shooting his sister in the face -- that happened in 2005. In 2008 Ford's sister got back together with Macintyre and they lived together for 3 years!!!!!

Do you see where this whole thing is headed? He has a ton of money, his friends are all drug dealers, photos with murder victims, crack houses, and he can arrange a prison beating.

Got a proposition for ya... it's called sticking your head out of your ass. Your esteemed mayor is a fucking criminal.

Your precious Mimico would be, like the rest of Etobicoke short of that block that Ford conveniently lives on, a dying suburb with no jobs and rampant crime. Etobicoke was saved by amalgamation.

You can thank the downtowners for generating the revenue to make sure your little welfare burb smells like yuppie farts.

While some of us have a hankering for vigilante justice, let's not forget that the claim here is taht the (alleged) beating was for threatening to reveal RoFo's drug use and not for shooting the sister in the face. The shooting happened about 7 years earlier and RoFo never felt any familial obligation to "get even" for his sister's sake. Don't make RoFo into some sort of hero for this.

Foo, "tax increases" are what you get when you do things like pushing for a $4 billion subway expansion without a viable business plan. Did you know that one reason for the damage from teh ice storm was because the city "saved" money by cutting back (pun intended) on tree services for the past couple of years? How ironic, eh? A lack of maintenance on the urban forest ended up costing more money than it saved.

I wonder how many of the "anti-tax" commenters on here have complained in forums like this about how long it takes to get a call to 311 answered or to have their side street plowed after a snow storm or when another chunk falls off the Gardiner expressway?

Rob Ford is a bit of a cipher (or cypher if you prefer). He is kinda like a blank wall with a bit of graffiti (slogans) scrawled in a bottom corner. People read the graffiti and then superimpose their own interpretations of that graffiti (graffito?) while associating it in their minds with RoFo.

RoFo is not a Mike-Harris right-wing ideologue. He is a populist who has latched on to the "no tax" mantra without having a good grasp on political theories or philosophies. Despite being a silver-spooned scion of the upper class he identifies and socializes with the welfare class. He truly is for the "little guy" and supports better public housing and better subways.

The latter characteristics put him at odds with true right-wing zealots but, by being a cipher, they read into RoFo's antics what they want to. This is why people look past all of the (near) criminal behaviour and the bad choices RoFo has made and they see what they want to see.

I can't let this stand. I own a house and pay property taxes and think Ford is a disaster for the city. Under his aegis it will fall apart. The man is an arrogant bully and lacks the common decency to resign.

We aren't picking on him we're fighting back in the only way we can. Ford nation should take its collective head out of the sand.
