TTC bus crashes into Little Nicky's Coffee Shop

Posted by Staff / July 22, 2012

TTC bus crashA TTC bus has crashed into the side of Little Nicky's Coffee shop. The accident occurred on Sunday morning and involved two cars that seemed to collide at the intersection of Peter and Richmond Streets. Police aren't saying much so far (the investigation is still underway) but reports are that a number of people suffered minor injuries with at least two sent to hospital.

Early indications are that the coffee shop didn't suffer any major structural damage, although bricks were noticeably dislodged from the southern end of the building. Lattes and donuts might be scarce here come tomorrow morning, but let's hope they're back in business soon.

Instead of worry about the lattes and donuts, how about the bus driver and other people that were sent to the hospital?

that place is pretty much empty weekends, since it services small offices around the peter/richmond area. if this happens 3 years from now, then it would be a totally different story since the building of another 500+ home units in that area!

I'm sure the coffee shop is fine - the bus crashed into the small lobby for the office's above and Little Nicky's. The real question is how the bus ended up on the opposite side of the road, in a parking lot, and slammed into a building.

my fiancee's been taking the bus to work while the Spadina streetcar track is under repairs. Every day, she tells me about the horror stories of the ttc buses. She said the buses speed through yellow lights, runs through the bus stops, and has almost hit pedestrians and other cars on numerous occasions. the bus will just come to screeching halts and narrowly hitting someone or something. She's wasn't surprised at all when I showed her this article. She even suspects she knows who the driver could be.

When life gives you lemons! Make doughnuts with a lemon glaze on them. Remember Lemon doughnuts? Or that Lemon Jelly/Jam that your parents would buy sometimes. Lemon jelly.

I'm surprised the TTC didn't run anyone over in the process...they usually kill at least one pedestrian per incident.

I agree with the other poster with regards to TTC vehicles running red lights. You would think they would be more careful since they have a bus load of passengers and since they are "professional" drivers.

I live and work in the area and this Spadina/Queen construction has caused absolute traffic chaos. I'm suprised there hasn't been any casualties.

It's about time we have a downtown Queen or King street subway line.

Is it really necessary to have a subway to Scarborough? Do we really need the downtown core to be more easily accessible to gang members?

Was the drive drunk, sleeping, stoned or other? I'm betting on stoned.

The coffee shop is closed on Sundays, fortunately.

I'm guessing the collision had more to do with the two cars on Richmond and the bus trying to avoid them, as in the second photo here: http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/1230191--ttc-bus-crashes-into-building-on-queen-st-w-two-injured

(even though the Star seems to think it happened on Queen).

Spadina buses are a mess. They have 40,000 daily riders, a really tight schedule and mess up traffic condition. Recently buses are just short turning at Dundas just to provide service to Chinatown. The Queen/Spadina intersection forced all the buses onto narrow streets. Peter street isn't even suitable for buses given a condo is being built there. Construction vehicles are consisting blocking the way. Buses themselves aren't even suitable for downtown traffic when they need to operate a minute apart.

Buses often operate at full load. Buses are much heavier than cars. Breaking for a yellow is much harder, so they often run through the intersection instead. Driving too passively will make the bus late.

Bus drivers need a serious reality check.
If you're unable to drive safely, follow traffic signals and laws you do not get to drive a public bus.

Just yesterday I was late for work because an older gentleman driving the bus needed to get a coffee and bagel. And nobody could say anything because some of them are so god damn entitled to behave with such inappropriate manors.
Next time I'm cooking someone's dinner (I'm a chef) I'll have it come out 15 minutes too late because I needed a latte and a muffin.
it won't be easy to find out of this driver is properly delt with if it turns out it was his fault or what actually happened.

The operators are very professional, have you looked into their ability to decline work if even they feel it's unsafe! We do not know the process however assume things. I have been on these buses many times and find the service better than streetcars! They run yellows because of their weight and stopping is more of a hazard. Of course they run close to bikers and pedestrians, it's spadina! Freaking crowded! You tell them to get out of the way because operators can't! Especially all the morons who stop for something and block the entire lane. They don't want to be late because people often bitch, so slow down, provide great customer service, follow the cyclist become late and get attitude from uneducated people. Put your self in their shoes first!

It is very rare seen and action. The driver saved some lives or sleeping behind the wheel? It is sad but lucky not many hurt seriously.

This is the reason "We should drive the vehicle but nothing else drive us within while we driving the vehicle." Driving is every minute job. Nobody can claim they are best and let all going in Auto Pilot.

Looking at the picture it looks like it wasn't a very serious accident. Wonder how many people got injured.
