The photos of the week: March 17-23

Posted by Staff / March 23, 2012

Queen's QuayThe photos of the week collect each of the editor-selected photos of the day into one post for a contest to be decided by our readers. Sponsored by Posterjack, the photographer whose image receives the most votes will be awarded with a voucher code for a 24"x36" poster print of their work.

All the rules and fine-print can be found in the original announcement post on the blogTO Flickr page. One thing to add, however, is that the voting period ends at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, after which the winner will be contacted with the good news.

For those photographers whose images are featured below, please feel free to give us a little information about your shot — i.e. where and when it was taken — in the comments section. Who knows? Maybe your description will sway voters in your favour! Lead photo by Photo by Alejandro Santiago.

What's with blogto changing the titles of each artist's work on this page?

Hard to know what you're talking about when there aren't any titles on this page. If you're referring to the poll, those are descriptions meant to help voters identify/connect each photo.

That, of course, takes one to a different page.

Thanks to the editors for picking my photo for the photo of the day! My photo is of my daughter looking up at the Galleria at Brookfield Place (used to be BCE Place). It's a pretty familiar place to most Torontonians, not to mention oft-photographed. But my daughter hadn't seen it before, so I took her there, tunneled there along the PATH network. We took the escalator up and as she looked up in awe at the sight, I saw that her expression and the Galleria together looked visually interesting, so I took out my camera and snapped the photo as we neared the top. There are lots of photos of this place, but this one was a bit different, so I posted it.

The juxtaposition of the plane and the tower in pics 3 and 4 is eerily reminiscent of 911...maybe you could change the order.

The fog called me out of bed early that morning to photograph the mist as it entered the city from lake Ontario. Check out the rest of the photos from that morning on my Flickr page:
