Batman pays a visit to Toronto

Posted by Derek Flack / February 18, 2012

Batman TorontoIt's been a while since we've had the chance to post a bizzaro YouTube clip that prominently features Toronto. Well, the wait is over. This video of a Batman wannabe patrolling our streets and subways is definitely worth a laugh or two, if only on account if its ridiculousness. The best part is surely the imitation of the guttural voice Christian Bale cops when he's playing upset Batman, which our local version uses to scare the shit out of people by bellowing "WHERE ARE THEY?"

I came across this clip via a blog post on OpenFile, which you should go read. They've got the lowdown on the man behind the mask, who, as some of you will know, has been doing this in and around Yonge & Dundas for a couple of years.

And the Joker is Toronto's mayor.

Can someone explain to me the need to take pictures with characters like this? Is it for proof to tell you friends? Some social cool factor that you pseudo-participated in something like this? I don't get it. We immediately see something different and are like CAN I TAKE A PICTURE.... I don't understand. Just enjoy the fun of it and move on.

Next thing someone will be dressing up as Santa and going around terrorizing people by doing something crazy like, oh, I don't know, what's a crazy thing to do on the streets? Pushups or something.

No, wait...

This guy was at the preview screening of the Dark Knight Rises Prologue a while ago.

I saw "T.O.Batman"; wandering around Pride (in a different costume) busy assuring people he wasn't gay. Yu could almost hear everyone in ear shot roll their eyes simultaneously.

That's kind of funny. I had a line in there about putting this guy and Zanta in the same room, but pitched it at the last minute.

Is this that idiot who was on that WHACK MTV Canada show, Creeps? Ugh. The worst part of his schtick? That he's always thisclose to laughing. Obviously thinks very highly of himself. A good comedian/performer should be able to stay in character and keep a straight face.

This is periodically damn funny - especially the bits where he's frustrated by beef jerky - but hiding in a parking garage to shout at women is pretty fucking problematic. (Also, randomly shouting "my parents are dead" is funny, but not shouting it at little kids.)

Hey guys,

glad you guys enjoyed this.. even the haters... keep on doing..

btw it was Toronto Robin at Pride... Not Batman

Since you're profiling local celebrity impersonators can we get a story on the guy who dresses up like Michael Jackson and stands at the corner of Bathurst & Wilson? He shows up during morning/evening rush hours to "direct" the traffic. He's been doing this for at least 20 years now and occasionally the cops come and take him away. The next day, he's back at it again.

simba 390 I can not agree with you more

I'd really be interested to see if there is a way to find how many comment sections mention Rob Ford when he is not mentioned in the article.

wow never heard of this ..

Seriously, I can't stand Ford either, but I love reading BlogTO comments (especially the ones for Street Style), just to see how many posts it takes to mention Ford, even when the post has nothing to do with him.

This guy sucks... He doesn't do the voice well, he's just incoherently grumbling through a lot of this, and yeah harassing girls in parking garages and traumatizing young children to try to force a viral video is totally wack.

Listen to cathie, go meet Michael Jackson. He often rides the Bathurst night bus too...

Was that Raymi the Minx he was dancing with at the club?
Mark / February 19, 2012 at 11:24 am
I would rather see Sheriff Raoul back on the streets again. He was funny. This guy shows only the signs of abuse/bullying manifesting in his desire for any press or approval. I feel sorry for this one trick pony. I can't help but cringe.

Maybe a real vigilante will kick his ass for harassing public. Get a life, scaring teenage girls in a mall.

your a fruit. if you enjoy the post then don't post pretentious comments like your some sort of smart hipster. why have a camera on your phone if not for things like this? it's in peoples nature to take photos of everything. so stop being a douche.

We live in a world of social currency, where in social media environments experiences now outweigh possessions. Thus why people love sharing pics and videos of their experiences, superheroes on the street included.

Lighten up, have a laugh, take a pic if even once in a while.

lol. Awesome :D some cool policemen :)
Steph / February 19, 2012 at 10:14 pm
what a nerd.
anya / February 20, 2012 at 03:13 pm
Christian Bale's voice was altered in post. He himself didn't actually talk like that! I wonder if he wants to throttle the Batman sound editor for making him the butt of so many jokes.
sodapop / February 21, 2012 at 02:51 pm
jeez you are all so uptight just relax and enjoy it, if you don't enjoy it then don't watch it. everybody is freaking out cause he scared the girls in the parking lot, but honestly who really cares they probably had a good laugh after they realized he was harmless
eww / February 21, 2012 at 03:28 pm
Batman smells like old hockey bags.
