Jarvis Bike Lane Sale Craigslist

Jarvis bike lanes offered for free on Craigslist

After yesterday's Toronto City Council vote to eliminate the Jarvis bike lanes, it's not surprising that cycling advocates are frustrated. Rather than meeting the decision with belligerence, however, the author of the Craigslist ad above has adopted a satirical approach. "We've just decided that cycling's not really a priority for our city and have chosen to switch back to the old car-centric model," reads the item description.

The best part? It's a free listing. "First come, first served! This thing's going to cost us about $200 000 to remove, so we'd like to see it taken ASAP," writes the putative seller. It probably won't help to save the lanes, but it's a rather clever expression of exasperation, and I suspect it'll elicit a bit of empathy on the part of cyclists across the city. Anyone interested in snagging a bike lane or two?
