Iggy busts a move at Much

Posted by Robyn Urback / July 30, 2010

Michael IgnatieffThe Liberal Party Express stopped by MuchMusic yesterday where leader Michael Ignatieff proved he's just like your dad with at Mojito at a wedding. That's right, there was twisting.

Iggy made his three-day stop in the GTA as part of his cross-Canada tour. The federal Liberal Leader took a moment to answer questions from a 17-year-old interviewer (d'awww!), then asked to see the video "Wavin' Flag" from Rexdale's own K'naan.

"There's this young Canadian guy who has become a global star, K'naan, with the World Cup and I'm a big soccer fan and he made us really proud," Ignatieff said. "Wavin' Flag, that's the one I want to hear."

Then came the steel drum dancing, and yes, there was a conga line.

Good job, Iggy. If dancing won't win the hearts of Canadian voters, well then I just don't know what will.

Check out the video below. For something a bit more serious, have a look at our interview with Ignatieff published yesterday.

Wow, I guess every Liberal leader needs an embarrassing video.

Wow, when he couldn't look like more of a clueless dope he does this.

Honestly, it's crap like this that puts off anyone who is actually capable of running a country from even trying to get elected. To what end exactly is the public and/or media asking politicians to do things like this? Would they be more likely to win a majority if Iggy could do a backflip? Or is it simply for the nice feeling of superiority people get in watching the failure?

This doesn't help. Why lower yourself. Desperation is the word. At the same time, it doesn't really matter because it's almost as if he's not even in the game anymore and he's just dancing as a regular citizen.

As for the dancing, I bet whatever dancing ability he has and the confidence to dance, probably is a result of trips to the tropics - all paid for by hardworking Canadians and their taxes.

In typical Toronto resident fashion, the posts on this entry are mostly negative. Yes, everyone, this does help. Ignatieff is showing that he is a down to earth guy and is encouraging the younger people to be interested in politics by going to them, not forcing them to go to him. How is this negative? At least it's not Obama on 'The View'...

Matt, don't be in denial. It's not typical Toronto fashion, it's the subject and the people involved that are negative from the start. And these days, there's too much ugliness and horrid things going on. People too. When things are bad and ugly, you'll get a reaction. Be thankful there are reactions and criticisms because if there weren't any of these from people, then it only shows we have a dumbed-down and brainwashed society.

But the negativity is always repetitive and pointless.

Corruption and lack of progress is pointless, but it continues to happen here and repeats again and again. Be positive or fake positive about it all, and corruption will continue and they will laugh.

True, but this is a blog. A relatively unknown one. And all I read are annoyingly repetitive comments about Street Style, and Morning Brew, and Radar, and every other feature or regular section. And when BlogTO reports about our Liberal Leader attempting to reach out to a younger audience to engage/relate to them, of course it is met with more annoyingly repetitive comments. Maybe if all these commenters banded together and spoke out in reality and instead of on a blog that no one influential outside Toronto will read, we'd have a better leader than Iggy Pop over here...
