Christmas Tree?

My sister and I spotted this tropical wonder while we were doing some last minute shopping on Christmas Eve.

Situated near the corner of Walmer and Bloor in the Annex, was this decorated tree an offbeat attempt at luring customers to nearby stores? Or was it deft satire, highlighting the wastefulness and gluttony of the holiday season?

If anyone knows more about the origins of this rotting, frosted banana tree, let us know in the comments.
