Come As You Are HollyWhat's Your Story? features the different characters that roam the streets of Toronto. Every Monday and Thursday, a new person shares their story, likes and dislikes about the city, a little secret and more.

come as you are toronto
Name: Holly

Age: 24

What neighbourhood are you from? Parkdale

What do you 'do'? Worker/Owner, Come As You Are, a co-op sex shop

How long have you been in Toronto? 7 years

What's your story?

I grew up in Newmarket and commuted to Toronto for high school to attend Subway Academy 2, an absolutely amazing alternative school.

I can't stay in one apartment for more than a year, so I've moved around the downtown/west end area (currently looking for an apartment...) a ton. I recently became a co-owner of Come As You Are at Bathurst and Queen, and I could not be more excited.

I'm pretty much in love with the best guy of all time, Patrick Mathers. I also enjoy frequent road trips across the US with my best friend Rachel, and eating too much American fast food. So far, eight places in one day is our record. Yeah, life's hard.

Favorite thing(s) about Toronto:

Hanlan's Point nude beach and Toronto Island in the summer, bbqing in the sunshine, tons of patios and the Brock Beer Store. Also, my friends and job all being really close to each other. A general sense of happiness and well-being that the city provides each and every morning that I wake up!

Least favorite thing(s) about Toronto:

Trying to ride my bike on College Street weekend evenings and not getting run over by cabs and pedestrians...and the fact there are no bike lanes on Queen. Much On Demand. Home Depot coming to Queen and Portland. Cold in the winter.

You have 24 hours to spend with someone who's never been to Toronto before - what do you do?

Cadillac breakfast, vintage shopping at Franny Vintage in Parkdale.

One thing that your friends/family don't know about you:

I'm addicted to horrible reality shows and TV on the internet. Also, I'm a grammar junkie obsessed with spelling and punctuation errors.

She seems really nice, but how does a cyclist get run over by a pedestrian? The cyclist is the one on wheels. The pedestrian is the one at risk.

While pedestrians may not exactly run over cyclists they are just as dangerous. I had a guy step off the curb right in front of me once. He got knocked over but I went flying and got hurt a lot worse than he did.
