Another Gruesome Day on the 401
After last week's truck fire on the 401, expect this evening's commute on the continent's busiest highway to be just as bad.
According to 680 News, the eastbound collector lanes of the 401 have just been closed east of the 400 due to a criminal investigation.
This afternoon a man was shot several times and thrown from a moving Lexus, which exited the highway at Keele. The victim was was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. If it's not too late, it's highly advisable to think of alternative routes to avoid the standstill.
More on this story at The Star.com and CBC.
CityNews also reports that the main suspect could be a woman, and that the Lexus was found on fire near Albion and Weston. They also speculate that the closure might end up lasting hours.

UPDATE: The police have identified the victim and are questioning the woman who owns the vehicle but have refused to release names as of press time. CityNews provides a timeline of events, and as suspected road closures lasted until 11pm last night. Metro reports that frustrated drivers caught in the jam abandoned their vehicles on the highway, making the 401 an oversized parking lot.

Wow. It's like a bad movie. But real.
I was just watching Pineapple Express and thinking how unreal the plot was (although it's hilarious!)... but now...
That's exactly what I was thinking - it's such a movie-type action sequence and it happens during the week of the film festival... (but yes, a bad movie nonetheless)
"Sounds like a bad movie" was what I said when I first overheard some people on a bus talking about the Greyhound beheading. I couldn't believe it was actually true when I picked up the Globe & Mail later that day.
This is movieish, but it happening on the 401 between Islington and Keele makes it unfortunately easy for me to accept as reality..

The location of the victim dumping is the reason that this could be true?
The shooter couldn't have been that intelligent. "I know! Lets dump the body on the 401. That won't attract attention!"
I actually thought the Greyhound Bus incident would make a great movie... now what does that say about my taste in films? hehe
Friggin scum criminals... I don't care if they kill each other off, good riddance... but do it in a less public place gawd-dammit!
Inside a house, apartment, in an alley, wooded area, whatever... just not in a place that would cause major friggin delays to not only people, but commerce too... everthing needs to get somewhere within a certain time, and this is gonna fcuk that up!

i think it was a message to one or more people, they wanted it public, where word would spread fast. citytv said he was shot in the car then pushed out, and probably was still alive when other cars were running him over. brutal, very brutal :(
The police also mentioned the possibility that he jumped out of the car himself as he was being shot at.
This glibness might be a defense mechanism over something so unbelievably heinous...
but I can't imagine how loud those gunshots must've been inside that car.
When I go shooting (target, no animals or people), I have earplugs and it's STILL too loud.
I also think the victim jumped while being shot at. He was risking likely death on the 401 pavement to avoid certain death in the car. Witnesses saw a female driver with a handgun. If it was a single suspect, how can you push someone out of the car while driving? How can you even open a passenger door while driving?

Corina, since you are such a cinephile, do a google search on "Daniel Pearl + video".
