Toronto Night Market 2008
When night falls, food, games, shopping, and plenty of entertainment are in high gear at the Toronto Night Market this weekend. Last night things kicked off, and a great number of people converged and took in the festival at Metro Square Plaza and New Century Plaza in Markham.
Headed by the Youth Affiliate of The Dove Intercultural Society, the festival highlights Asian food and culture.
Tonight is your last chance to get in on the experience, so head up to Markham and get in on the fun.

Thank you for venturing north of Eglinton and doing what other blogs refuse to do. Another reason why blogto is the best of the bunch.
Those of us who live in the suburbs (but within Toronto boundaries) applaud you.
I work walking distance from thereand had no idea the event was going on. I guess that also shows how much spotlight non downtown events get.
After looking at the website, it appears they open at 1pm today, so if you don't have time tonight, you can still experience it this afternoon and evening.
"Thank you for venturing north of Eglinton and doing what other blogs refuse to do"
Not only blogs, but a lot of GTA residents have no idea, or too small-minded, to realize that a number of decent (and truly authentic) cultural events exist outside the downtown core.
My sister and a friend ventured out there yesterday from Hamilton and let me tell you ... it was sooo worth it! Two dozen mussels in white wine sauce for $5, 8 fresh oysters chucked in from of your face for $10, stinky tofu you could smell for miles, squid, fish balls, lamb, tripe, and anything else you could think of on a stick for $1-$2.50!! This event was amazing and i can definitely say we'll be back next year. .. oh and there was free parking available!!
Thanks for the great article! I will pass this onto our members. Unfortunately I am in Taiwan at this moment so I'm missing out on TNM.
Do head out to this year's TNM for great food and festivities. If you're downtown, just take a subway to Finch and take the Steeles Bus to Steeles/Warden.
I just read all the comments and again, want to thank everyone who headed out to the event this year. This makes all our hardwork worth it. It's also useful to get some feedback about the promotional aspect of it. We do try really hard to get the message out, but with a limited budget (We are completely non-profit and all the profit we make, we donate to charity!) it really isn't as effective as we would like.
And yes, we do have free parking!
Wow, first time attendance, ever. And I have to say, pretty impressed. Good food, good deals, too many people though...felt like a weird club filled with too many Asian people from differant age groups. Haha. Good experience, will visit next year.
I found my murtabak, so I'm a happy happy camper. :) This sort of thing really should be a fixture in TO. In Vancouver there are night markets every weekend, all summer long!
do you know where i could find more photos from this event? i saw alot of professionals taking photographs, but couldn't find much online! thanks!
Hi Diane, I'm part of the organizing committee for Toronto Night Market and would love to be sent a copy of the pictures as well, if possible.
Thank you for your post and all the comments. I'm glad to see that everyone enjoyed the event!

So, were you actually at the event, akswun, or are you just hypothesizing as to what you "think" it would smell like?
And if you were there, did you just complain the whole time?
Please, share more of your amazingly illustrative insight.
Anyhow. I'm disappointed I didn't know about this sooner, but I'll make sure to keep my eyes and ears open for next year's(?) event.
