Video of the Fire at Queen and Portland

Posted by Tim / February 20, 2008

As previously reported, a massive fire has engulfed buildings at Queen and Portland including the one that houses Duke's Cycle. Here's some raw video from the area this morning at around 8:30am. By this time, the fire department seemed to have the fire under control. This is as close as I could get as Queen was blocked off to pedestrians east of Bathurst.

A couple of bonus photos after the jump.

Phew, I was afraid there wasn't enough space for new condos. I am so relieved.

This made me really sad when I heard about it :( I am away from Toronto right now but Queen West is always in my heart.

(I kind of wish the Big Bop burned down, though.)

Kevin beat me to it. Could we maybe get a rewind and try the fire mashed up with the Bop instead of worthwhile places like Suspect?

Ha! That's exactly what I was thinking!

Guess I'm one of the few posting then that actually has some good memories of fun times at the Big Bop.

Sucks to be you :P

My heart goes out to all the home and business owners for your loss. The Queen West areas are some of the places I truly enjoy strolling through. It makes everyone who comes down there feel like they can fit in.
I really hope that whatever goes in to replace these lost treasures embraces that spirit, rather than replace it
