We're not sure if start is the right word here. Maybe continuation. Either way, word got out today that Sports Specialist and, um, guy magnet, Kathryn Humphreys has told Citytv to take a hike.

Yep, the TV personality who apparently has traveled throughout Europe and Australia (see Little Known Fact) has left the station. Not sure yet where she's going but apparently a lot more turnover should be expected as employees are not too happy about the whole Rogers thing.

I understand there's a new weather person, also.
Thursday morning he was on Breakfast TV and was being
asked about his credentials. Sorry, but I can't remember his name. I saw him for only a couple of seconds before
something else took me away.

Sure, there's going to be a turnover.

Maybe someone will tell Kevin that he's not a moustache person.

Isn't Kevin growing his moustache for charity?

You TOTALLY misreported what Humphreys said to her bosses. She actually said "Go fuck yourselves in the ear."

GAHD!

@David E: His name is Chris and he seemed pretty nervous haha poor guy. I laughed when she asked him about his credentials and he actually went on to list them...

going to miss seeing Humphreys loads, she is a funny lady.

I was both shocked and deeply outraged when I leaned that Bell Globe Media was purchasing the CHIN television franchise, but was never able to learn the reasons why the deal was being allowed by the CRTC.
What ever happened the regulations against monopolies?
Suffice it to say, the station that truly stood out out as being Toronto's (and Edmonton, Calgary, Regina, Vancouver) voice is now no more.
It's going to be a while, if ever, before it regains it's voice.

Wow do I feel out of the loop. I never realized that the original posts about the buyout were incorrect or at least misleading. I still thought it was CTV that bought CityTV via CHUM.

... especially since CityTV shows NFL games on Sundays via CTV's Canadian NFL licence they took from Global.

Somewhat unrelated, but I noticed the other day that there are now shows on CBC sponsored by Rogers. I think it was "No Opportunity Wasted." Whenenever the show logo appeared, the Rogers logo was always on the other side of the screen, -and- bigger.

Good thing we have the internet.

THE TRUTH IS SHE LEFT NOT BECAUSE OF ROGERS. SHE LEFT BECAUSE THEY ARE KEEPING THE SAME BACKWARDS ASS MANAGEMENT IN THE NEWSROOM. IN PARTICULAR , STEPHEN HURLBUT. SHE HATES THEM AND THATS THE REASON WHY. SHE WAS ACTUALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE ROGERS DEAL BUT WAS HOPING THEY WOULD GET RID OF THE DUMBASSSES THAT RUN THE PLACE

Posted by: TRUTH BE TOLD at November 9, 2007 1:05 PM

I heard she is starting a career in the adult film industry?

Posted by: POOP at November 9, 2007 2:45 PM

It's true, Hurlbut has pissed off a huge number of people, completely ignored any updates to the industry (particularly the internet) and continued the steady decline into the media whore citytv has become.

There's a reason people are leaving in droves.

Former employee (and happy to be gone)

Aw, I'll miss Kathryn. Aside from Mark Daily, she was my favourite personality on CityTV. I read in an interview ages ago that she was offered A LOT of money by other big-name stations to work for them, but she turned them down, because she wanted to stay with City. I wouldn't be surprised now if she jumped to TSN or ESPN.

Unrelated: Whatever happened to Harold Hussein, anyway?

Posted by: Elle Driver at November 13, 2007 1:35 PM

City left a voicemail on his answering machine while he was on vacation. "Uh, Harold? Yeah. Don't bother coming in to work on Monday."

He's still on the radio doing the weather.

KH is the best. She got Hurlbut fired!!!!!!!!!!! She's back!

Posted by: commentsrule at November 14, 2007 11:34 PM

Gee...and to think I was the one who got Hurlbut that very first job of his at 99 Queen St. E....They can all hate me too, I don't care....

> Whatever happened to Harold Hussein, anyway?

As someone else stated, Harold is on the radio: 680 News if my memory is correct. And I believe that 680 News is also a Rogers Media property (BT's morning traffic reports are now provided by 680 News; they had been provided by CHUM before the change in ownership). So it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for Harold to be asked to fill in at City when one of the other weather people go on vacation.

Harold is also a mortgage manager for National Bank believe it or not. Need a mortgage? Call Harold Hussein!

I too am another Former City Person. Glad to see Steve Hurlbut's ass fired - couldn't have happened soon enough, and should have happened years ago. He was an ignorant, rude, obscene, jerk. I only left City because of him.

Posted by: Former CityPerson at January 13, 2008 2:41 PM

Wow, lots of Hurlbut hate. And so well-earned!

I have never liked "kathryn the thinks she's great" all she ever did was copy jim mckenny's reporting style
