glowTO: Downsview Park Covers All Corners

Posted by Tanja / December 20, 2006

20061220_glowTO-downsview1.jpgOver at Canada's largest urban park, Downview Park, the lights glow on each far-reaching corner of the green-space. Each corner has is unique, so depending on which side you're passing on, you'll see something a little different.

In addition, they've embraced both English & French messages in their displays as well as various holiday symbols from our major religions celebrating the season. Great to see!

Post-holiday winter events at Downsview are already in the works. Visit their website to read up on the upcoming ice sculpture competition.

I think it's funny that they include those other symbols, but smaller than the Christian iconography: a nod to diversity, but with clear (if unintentional?) emphasis... yet the textual messages are totally secular.

'Course, they don't have much choice on the English/French front, being a <a href="http://www.pdp.ca/About_Us.395.0.html";>federal crown corporation</a>.

Yeah, they could certainly be larger... I'm with you there. I was still happy to see em. I'd travelled all of Bathurst from St. Clair to Steeles looking for a great Menorah to feature and couldn't find any that were illuminated enough to photograph.
