A New Transit Map for Toronto

Posted by Sameer / May 8, 2006

Graeme Stewart's Toronto Transit MapOver on Reading Toronto, Graeme Stewart has created a new map concept for Toronto's transit system, combining LRT, subway, streetcar, and GO Train lines. The current TTC subway map makes Toronto seem like an empty void, rather than the Metropolitan Flavour that residents know and love.

As Graeme explains on the blog post accompanying the maps, "clearly illustrating the connections within the network would show the extensiveness of the system we already have, and hint at the areas best suited for future expansion." Not only will a highly-networked transit map appeal to tourists in the process of deciding on where to go for their vacation, but it will also be instrumental to Torontonians' sense of pride in their transit system, which is built on so much more than just three subway lines.

Streetcars in an R.O.W. and GO Rail makes sense, but not all surface streetcar routes as they aren't exactly "rapid transit."
