CBC Lockout

More than 5,000 CBC workers - both permanent and contract staff - were locked out just after midnight this morning.
Late this afternoon I stopped by the CBC building at Front and John and talked to workers about some of the issues. Most thought the lockout would last anywhere from 6 weeks to 5 months.

does anybody really care?
The CBC is so out of touch with most Canadians. CTV and Global regulary beat CBC on most nights in most markets, except for HNIC, but I'm sure the folks at TSN Or RSN can do the job.
As a Toronto urbanite I always thought there was a little truth in that, until I worked for the CBC and realized that us city folks are not "MOST CANADIANS". Most Canadians actually live outside of the big city and appreciate being represented as well as having accessible Canadian programming. While some of us may have scoffed at having to see Curling on TV instead of hockey, there were millions of happy viewers for curling. Ask any AR rep from the good ol' corp and they'll tell you how much most Canadians (not Torontonians) love it.
Thats true. In many communites, CBC is the only channel that gets any good reception at all. So, for all intents and purposes, it is TV for those people.
Tanja, I noticed that you mentioned CBC's coverage of curling. It should be noted that CBC only provided one match per day and the other 2 were on the country canada channel which is only on satellite tv. Many curling fans were upset and were tired of the CBC's arrogance in expecting people to pay to see the rest of the matches. Now, Curling Canada has backed out of their contract with the CBC so that they can get the coverage they need for their fans. CBC is now suing them.
Get rid of the CBC or privatize it.
Oh and another thing. Notice their lockout websites that a few of them have. Their blogs? Normally with blogs you get to post your comments on there, such as this one. But no, not on their's. Guess they don't support free speech even when they're not employed either. Typical CBC.
