Sunday Star Makeover

The Sunday Star at last unveiled their long-awaited face lift today. The big casualty is that they've canned the best section - Metropolis. In its place is a somewhat lacklustre three article sub-section "The City" from pages A4 to A7. Not surprisingly, they haven't made any changes to their web site.

My first take is that this is an upgrade/downgrade. The bad news is the Metropolis thing and less coverage of people and happenings in the city. On the plus side, the paper is printed in full color and has a magazine feel to it with shaded columns, lots of photos and bold headlines. Seems like they definitely wanted to start with a bang as they've come up with a lot more interesting articles than usual, although Chris Hutsul's Naked Streets is a bit of a ripoff on a similar article I read in the recent issue of Wired Magazine.
