Front Street Fallout

The Toronto Star is reporting that the much discussed and planned Front Street extension is probably going to be killed for good. Apparently, the feds have backed out of their commitment to the project and the city is having second thoughts about forking over the $150 million plus needed to expand Front Street west to Liberty Village. Can't say I'm disappointed.

Arguments for this initiative have centred around waterfront revitalization and improving traffic flow but if you listen to community groups and even some developers you get the sense that we're not getting the whole story from some politicians. But is anyone really surprised that yet another part of the waterfront revitalization plan is being shelved? With the city now focused on aquariums, this waterfront debacle is only getting worse.
