I contacted this bakery because I will be throwing a party, and found them to be rude. I had called for a couple of days, but nobody answered the phone. When someone finally did, I found that they were not pleasant at all, to the point and seemed to be rushing me off the phone. On top of that, I found that they were not flexible, as I was looking for a cake to be prepared within less than a week - no alternative was offered. She just enforced that if I had checked their website or listened to their voicemail, I would have known that one week notice was mandatory. You would think that someone who works in an industry that depends on special occassions to be a little flexible because they would want to help make your occasion more memorable. I definitely did not get a good first impression from this place, and would not recommend using them. There is a new place called Flaky Tart on Mount Pleasant south of Eglinton that is much nicer, more flexible, and can provide the same specialty cakes. That's where I will be going.

Life is interesting in that different people can go to the same location and come away with completely impressions. I think it's probably best that "Flaky" person who left the message above went away. My own experiences with It's the Icing on the Cake have been very positive...more than one birthday cake - all exactly crafted the way I imagined - and tasty too [an unusual situation when everyone is focused on the decorations, rather than the cake]...a cake created exactly like our new home, and the wedding cake for my partner in business....photographed by the bride and featured on their picture album. This is a busy little bakery managed and operated by one lady, with part time help on weekends, and the writer above should have had the grace to be a little patient, and realize that a week to design and construct a one of a kind, elaborate cake, is reasonable. I'll be sticking with It's the Icing on the Cake....

These cupcakes are my favourite in the city. I believe they only sell chocolate and vanilla but both are excellent. The icing is light and airy. Definitely worth the trip!

I have to agree with Peter on this posting. I have used this bakery on numerous ocassions to rave reviews of my guests. I find the owner to be funny, engaging and intelligent. More that I can say about someone who chooses to ignore clearly stated rules about the length of time needed when placing an order. While I'm happy to hear that cupcake has found a bakery that will deal with unreasonable requests I think that her review of this establishment is unfair and a bit petulant!
It's the Icing on the Cake deserves your business!

Having ordered many delicious and excellently crafted specialty cakes from this charming establishment and never experiencing any attitude or rudeness I wonder if "Cupcakes" post is nothing more than a smear campaign or plug for another bakery? I ask myself if the request was so urgent why not order form one of the other specialty bakeries in the neighbourhood rather than having to go to Mount Pleasant & Eglington?

Cupcake - get a life! Ever had a bad day? Did you consider that one weeks notice isn't that much time for a business operated by one person? Do you know the workload that was ahead of your request? How much notice did your party guests get? Perhaps you should have thought of this and planned a little earlier and that it is you that is rude and unaware.

I like to call this place my "Cakery". I have ordered cakes for special occasions from this business for over four years and every one of them has been gorgeous and delicious. The cakes are truly works of art - cutting into them is always met with mixed feelings - don't mess it up, but oooh.. it's going to be sooo good! The cake is light and the buttercream icing is -really- buttercream icing (none of that the sugary tasteless stuff).

The cupcakes are outstanding. My wife loved them so much I had a giant cupcake made for her birthday cake one year! If you haven't tried the cupcakes you are most certainly missing out on an experience that has come to define my visits to Leslieville.

All I can say is, the cupcakes at this place made me sick! I literally almost vomited after taking two bites.

The icing on the cake is over rated. The cupcakes have more icing than cake and had so much shortening. The taste was ordinary like buying a grocery cupcake .IM very disappointed and relied on the review . Not a good place to buy cupcakes. YUCK!

I just enjoyed one of the softest, moist, cupcakes i have ever had. Drove from ronce/queen after i heard about these cupcakes, worth the drive! The lady at the counter was fantastic and very friendly, nice to share some small talk with a shop keeper. Well done, we'll see you after the baby is born :-)

horrible... horrible. I went in on Tuesday and spoke with someone about their cupcakes, her response was "what is the big deal with everyone and cupcakes, I don't like them and I don't eat them".
wow is how I felt when I left and they were horrible, I think she needs to put some love into them and maybe eat one to get it right. The cake was dry the icing was tastless. I will never be going back for anything, stay clear and keep driving east to Life is Sweet.

I agree that the owner/staff are rude and unhelpful. The 2 times I've been in here I've felt like I'm putting them out buying a full cake.

Judy, I'm with you, in fact I'd probably prefer the ones at a chain grocery store.

I have fabulously great cakes and great service from the Icing on the cake, so much so that I am always asked to be the one to bring the special cake. Linda has, on short notice and with no grousing (okay maybe a sigh) provided me with nothing short of masterpieces that everyone wants to have their pictures taken wit. A bridge hand for my mom's 95th, a camper-boller for my sister-in-laws 65th, an accordian for Fathers day, a Life mag cover for my sweetie's bday. Maybe those other guys were just the fly in the ointment. (Hehehe) Go Icing!

go to attitude bakery, they are so nice there, i went there 10 mins after they closed, and the owner was nice enough to let me in and order a cake...:) They only ask for 48 hours notice! The cake there is also super delicious...with super great service! I know some stores can be busy, but sometimes things don't work out as expected, and we need someone to be a little more accomdating...
