Radar: Twin Shadow, Lo-fi Sci-fi Salon, A Night To Make Music Matter, The Tangerine Murders, The Comedy Cabaret

MUSIC | Twin Shadow
A notable part of the uber-hip Brooklyn music scene, Twin Shadow (aka. George Lewis Jr.) hits Lee's Palace this evening for the first of a two-night run. He is known for a retro '80s sound that's been described as "new wave tinged." Twin Shadow's latest release, Confess, is an album about the songwriter's current circumstances, and how life on the road has changed his personal life. LA duo Poolside are also on the bill tonight, bringing their "daytime disco" vibes to the party.
Lee's Palace (529 Bloor Street West) 8PM $20-25

FILM | Lo-fi Sci-fi Salon
Tonight the Monarch Tavern hosts the first in a series of salon socials put together by Lo-Fi Sci-Fi, an organization devoted to championing the small budget science fiction thriller. They feel that Hollywood sci-fi blockbusters are more about special effects than substance, and want to bring back the 'cerebral' element, which has always been the crux of this genre. These salon Mondays run up to and including the 20th of August, and will be a great place to network, while catching short screenings and interesting speakers.
Monarch Tavern (12 Clinton Street) 7PM FREE

FUNDRAISER | A Night To Make Music Matter
Make Music Matter (formerly known as Song for Africa) is the organization behind a special fundraising event happening tonight at Hugh's Room. This registered charity is devoted to using music to make a better life for those living in challenged circumstances in "struggling African nations" battling political repression, violence, and disease. A generous selection of talent will be performing for the cause tonight, including Dan Hill, Jesse Labelle, Odario Williams (of Grand Analog), and many more.
Hugh's Room (2261 Dundas Street West) 8:30PM $30 ($25 advance)

BOOKS & LIT | Robert U Doyle Launching the second edition of his novel The Tangerine Murders
Toronto author Robert U. Doyle launches The Tangerine Murders tonight at Another Story Bookshop. Doyle is embarking on his crime fiction career later in the game than most, but he has strong support in our city's literary community, and this work (now in its second edition) is slated to be the first novel in a series of crime novels revolving around a charismatic Toronto sleuth named Tara Street. Street's story parallels Doyle's in her somewhat nomadic past, her travels, and her residence in TO's Roncesvalles Village.
Another Story Bookshop (315 Roncesvalles Avenue) 7PM
