What can one say about U2? They are definitely the biggest band on the planet... Almost two generations could possibly say that they grew up hearing their music - that's quite a feat for a band that is still prolific and actively touring. In the studio, they have always been cutting edge (no pun intended) and searching for new stylistic and sonic ground, loathe to repeat themselves. In a way, it's easy to take them for granted - for many, they have always been around, always delivering quality...except maybe for "Pop" (though some claim it was never given its rightful due). Tonight they will show those in attendance at the Rogers Centre what a truly seasoned band can do, with a stage show that can easily be relied upon to be of the highest caliber, with all of the possibilities that modern technology can offer. Interpol will enjoy one of the most coveted opening slots a band could ever ask for.

FILM | Toronto Film Society-From Page to Screen Series
The Toronto Film Society brings you a double bill of "film noir" classics, adapted from novels, tonight at the Carlton Cinema. First off, we have "Ministry Of Fear", a Fritz Lang-directed thriller, based on Graham Greene's novel of the same name. The second feature tonight is "Phantom Lady", directed by Robert Siodmak, based on Cornell Woolrich's novel about a mysterious missing woman who is the protagonist's only alibi, and once he's accused of his wife's murder, he cannot prove his alibi exists! Tonight's guest speaker is Don Shebib. Film notes provided.

CULTURE | Guess What: J端rgen Dehm
"Guess What" is a series of artist lectures, put together by Vanesa Rieger and Xenia Benivolski. Tonight's featured guest is Juergen Dehm, who hails from Germany, and currently holds the position of research assistant at the Free University of Berlin. He will be discussing the underground American and European "art film" culture of the 1960's, and its relationship with Hollywood, and the rest of the art world in general, including music. One might easily wonder if Warhol's eight-hour films of single shots of various subjects were an attempt to bridge the gap between the mediums of film and painting. Dehm will dig into these types of questions much further, to be sure.

MUSIC | My Morning Jacket
Kentucky natives, My Morning Jacket, will rock the Kool Haus tonight! These guys have been at it since the late '90s and rose from the ashes of an emo band called Winter Death Club.... Not the usual beginning for a band known for its prominence in US psych-rock/Americana/jam band circles! One of their more notorious moments was a four-hour set at the 2008 Bonnaroo Festival, where they played almost 40 tunes, including an array of unexpected covers, and guest appearances. A must-check!
