The Neighbourhood Mixtape: Waited Hours for This

The Neighbourhood Mixtape is a collection of newly-released songs by Toronto musicians. The mixtape is meant to celebrate Toronto's music culture and provide a forum to listen to and discover new local music.

Every Sunday, I post a five-track mixtape (along with my own mini-reflections for each track) that you can download or stream as a soundtrack for the week.

Track #1: La Casa Muerte, "All the Wrong Moves"

Sounding like a track born out of basement rubble, La Casa Muerte's gritty "All the Wrong Moves" pulls no tricks, just frantic fun you can dance to.

Track #2: Alphabot!, "Drivers Drive Cars"

Synths frolick and Jake Roels' lyrics boomerang in the infectious "Drivers Drive Cars", a rolling-stop song you never want to end.

Track #3: Automatic Toys, "Deep Sleep"

Theatrical vocals and jumping-jack beats shape the electro-glam track "Deep Sleep". Catch the duo's EP release party at MOD Club on May 11th.

Track #4: The Hoa Hoa's, "Blue Gumball"

The Hoa Hoa's coats the windswept "Blue Gumball" with synonyms for "sweet", each layer sounding as toothsome as the next.

Track #5: Lou Canon, "Close to Me"

Lou Canon covers a classic Cure track, which not only tickles your skin, but also prolongs your life. And even if the latter isn't true, at least she attempts to make a Philip Villeneuve out of us all. But please try out your moves at home first.
