How can you not love a bunch of slick, stylin' and guitar-shredding guys who got their start in Halifax? One of the finest indie acts around, the Darcys, brought their unique sound to the Horseshoe Tavern on Saturday night.

As soon as the Darcys began their set, the crowd and their beer bottles shifted straight to the stage. I got smooshed, but with good results - these guys are super-photogenic.

They work the pedals with a bit of a Sonic Youth vibe, but their sound is hard to nail down to a specific genre of indie music - they've got a feel that's completely original (think early Radiohead guitar layers, spliced with the laid-back style of Wilco).

They play an incredibly tight live show; energetic and completely in control. And it doesn't hurt that these guys are so easy on the eyes, and snappy dressers too.

The at-capacity crowd was digging it - even the two drunk college dudes. I'm pretty sure one of them shouted "your song-writing is immaculate!" at the band between songs. (That has to be most eloquent heckling I've ever heard.)

The Darcys, now based in Toronto, are going on tour again in the spring/summer so be sure to check them out.

By the way, I think their band tees are totally snazzy.
