Pirate radio hunt

Bored by the station my radio is currently tuned to, and with some time on my hands, at lunchtime today I decide to scroll through the frequencies to see what I could come across.

I begin with AM which proves unsuccessful, picking up nothing apart from static noise and the odd bit of feedback. Slightly deflated, I flick the switch to FM and start twisting the dial. And this is where the fun really starts.

I begin around 88 FM with some Russian speaking station which, as well as speaking Russian (very quickly), also play some cheerful big band music. After a couple of minutes here I move upwards and stumble across CKLN which seems to be in the middle of some kind of experimental classical music show. I catch an awesome track by the Toronto Percussion Ensemble which contains lots of eerie mystical glock chimes and jangles. I listen to the next track by an artist (whose name escapes me) who manages to make a song from sampling themselves chewing on a carrot!

I continue moving up, passing Do They Know It's Christmas (original version), REM (Losing My Religion) and the irritating new single from Madonna. My journey ends with a women recounting the time she met John Lennon and Yoko Ono, appropriate given the day. This is followed by a full uninterrupted play of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven. Nice.
