This Week in Rep Cinema features second-run and classic film selections from cinemas such as the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, The Fox, The Revue, The Royal, Toronto Underground Cinema, the Projection Booth, TIFF Bell Lightbox, and more.

It's repertory madness this week as The Revue continues with the Rep Cinema Fest with classics like The Breakfast Club, Dirty Dancing and Pee Wee's Big Adventure while sister cinema The Fox launches the Repertory Revival Series with classics from the golden age of cinema. The Lightbox also plays host to some classics with their Gentlemen Prefer Blondes series this week and a screening of Rebecca. There are also some classic horror and grindhouse films for those of you with a taste for scares.

TUESDAY JUNE 19 / DIRTY DANCING / REVUE CINEMA / 7PM
You find me one woman 25+ who never sang along to any of the songs in Dirty Dancing while daydreaming about being Baby and I will find you a liar. This was the movie that made every teenager ache to go to a weird summer resort targeted at middle-class suburbanites because it would obviously be full of hot dancers and watermelons. Featuring Patrick Swayze in his steamiest of roles and some of the most memorable '80s movie quotes, Dirty Dancing is always a must see. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the cinema.

THURSDAY JUNE 21 / THE GATE / TORONTO UNDERGROUND CINEMA / 9:30PM
The Gate is a Canadian horror film and Genie award winner that is an absolute must-see this week. The plot revolves around a group of teens left alone for the weekend who (of course) accidentally summon demons, thanks to a mysterious geode and some heavy metal lyrics (seriously, heavy metal music is the devil.) What could've been a cheesy kids horror film transcends the genre with some surprising story choices, and through the use of some Ray Harryhausen-esque special effects as an added bonus. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the cinema.

FRIDAY JUNE 22 / NORTH BY NORTHWEST / FOX THEATRE / 9:15PM
No, this isn't a leftover of the NXNE festival, it's just one of Hitchcock's best thrillers. North by Northwest follows poor Cary Grant as Roger Thornhill, a down-on-his-luck advertising executive who finds himself caught up in a dangerous caper when he's mistaken for George Kaplan, a mysterious government agent. While Roger protests his innocence, he's kidnapped, framed and double-crossed at every turn and unsure who to trust or confide in. It seems his luck changes when he meets a mysterious blonde, but then the tale only gets tricker...

SATURDAY JUNE 23 / GRINDHOUSE MARATHON / REVUE CINEMA / 11:30PM
From the people who brought you the Shock and Awe marathon two years ago, comes yet another epic cinematic evening, so strap in to your seats for 10.5 hours of grindhouse madness. From 11:30pm until 10am, the Revue Cinema will be transformed into a room full of gore and horror, featuring films like Sleepaway Camp, Horror Hospital, The Groove Tube, What Waits Below, Rappin' and one last secret film! Catch some shorts, trailers and animated works between the features and re-fuel with bottomless popcorn and themed horror snacks. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. SUNDAY JUNE 24 / THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT / TIFF BELL LIGHTBOX / 1PM
Jayne Mansfield--the "Poor Man's Monroe"--was never going to be the next Marilyn Monroe, but you wouldn't have known that from her first starring role in The Girl Can't Help It. Mansfield plays a gangsters' moll being forced to pick up a singing career when all she really wants to do is stay home and raise a family. Mansfield oozes sex appeal and charm, but really it's the musical numbers that make this film a classic. Featuring performances by Fats Domino and Little Richard, it's one of the defining Hollywood films of fifties cinema. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the cinema.
