Annual night market continues to serve up best street eats in the GTA
It's that time of the year again with the Asian night markets in full swing. The second of three planned (but unrelated) events occurred in the Toronto area this past weekend. For those unfamiliar with Night It Up!, it's an annual outdoor night market styled in the likeness of night markets from Taiwan and Hong Kong. It usually occurs after the Taste of Asia near Pacific Mall and before the Toronto Waterfront Night Market on Cherry Street. This is the 11th year that the event has been held, and has grown every year with the proceeds from the event going towards a charitable cause.
While the event played host to activities including 3x3 basketball, street volleyball and live music, the biggest attraction was the food. Dozens of vendors arrived for the all-weekend market to hawk fare ranging from smelly tofu, squid skewers, oyster pancakes, takoyaki and a wide assortment of new and interesting treats. New this year was also the presence of a number of popular food trucks including Caplansky's, Hogtown Smoke and Gourmet Bitches. Check the event's web site for a full list of participating vendors and food trucks.
Like past years, line-ups at Night it Up! were definitely on the long side, but the cheap and tasty food was definitely worth the wait. Here's a visual round-up from the event.
