Flour Power


One of the things that makes Toronto such a great city are the people who dedicate their passion, talent and energy to satisfying our stomachs. Those who make a "labour of love" out of not only feeding us, but by educating us on the possiblities of gastronomic delights.

Flourgirls are such a people. If you've ever begrudgingly attended an office party or baby shower, only to find yourself gleeful with delight over their oh-so-pretty cupcakes and cookies, you'll know what I'm talking about. If you haven't...well, you might want to start fishing for an invitation.

These home-based bakers boast a menu with some really mouth-watering options (the boston cream cupcake is pure genius) but they will put together nearly anything your heart desires, from brilliantly decorated cookies to a unique cupcake-tree cum wedding cake. (And they will deliver to anywhere in the GTA, as to prevent any downtown favouritism).

I was recently wowed by their beautiful, buttercream-topped gourmet cupcakes, including one of my new favourites, the Lemon Zinger. Biting into these rich concotions took me back to being a kid, when calories (or fat or carbs) didn't mean a thing, but they also appealed to my foodie side with their gourmet persona.

This is what I love about Flourgirls (aside from the fact that they are truly baking masters): they bring fun, stophistication, creativity and style back into baked goods without an ounce of pretension. And the result (fresh from the oven) is pure yumminess.
