After an illegal strike that paralyzed the city on May 29th, the resignation of TTC general manager Rick Ducharme, and a lot of back-and-forthing, the TTC is in the news again today.

The TTC announced today that starting in October every bus and streetcar will be outfitted with a protective "safety shield" that will protect drivers from abusive passengers. The outfitting is expected to cost $1.5million and be completed by December of 2007. The installation of security cameras is also part of the plan to enhance driver safety and assist in the apprehension of passengers that assault drivers.

Hopefully this addresses and solves one of the main labour issues the TTC is facing. In other related news, the commission will vote next month on the removal of TTC chair Howard Moscoe.
