6 Valentine's Day events in Toronto for 2016

Valentines Day events in Toronto will help you celebrate the most loved and loathed holiday of the year. Whether you want to forget the holiday's existence by partying with your S.O. at a warehouse or bask in its glory at a romantic movie, there's more than a few events worth skipping a night of Netflix and chill for.

Here are six ways to celebrate Valentine's Day in Toronto.

Gladstone Love Inn (Feb. 8-15)
The Gladstone has planned a week's worth of love-themed events to get you in the mood. If you want to skip the regular song and dance of prix fixe dinners and sappy rom-coms, head to the hotel for an adult colouring night, Tinder storytelling or Lego and beers instead. Sidebar: all events make great first date options, so feel free to take whoever you swiped right on last night.

Desert Hearts x SumerDaze: City Hearts - Winter is Coming Tour (Feb. 14)
On Sunday, an empty warehouse at Dovercourt and Dupont will be transformed into an entertainment hub filled with art, DJs and food. If smooth jazz and an expensive merlot won't woo your Valentine, there's a good chance this will.

Super Naughty Show (Feb. 12-13)
Looking to spice up your Valentine's Day weekend? On Friday and Saturday the Super Wonder Gallery is hosting its annual Super Naughty Show. The two-day event will fill the Bloorcourt contemporary art space with over 250 erotic paintings and sculptures more interesting than what you see on X-rated sites (maybe).

Lovelution: Valentine's Day Retreat (Feb. 13)
Head to North York for a love-themed warehouse party on V-Day. You and your S.O. can spend the evening practicing yoga, meditating, dancing, painting and partying in what planners describe as a "multi-room love labyrinth." Hosts want everyone to stay the night, so if you want to get frisky (and you're not an exhibitionist) you may want to skip it.

Deep Sea Soiree (Feb. 14)
By now, everyone and their mother knows the the aquarium makes for a great date spot. On V-Day, Ripley's is hosting a 19+ soiree complete with cocktails and a DJ. Bonus: if you and your date don't hit it off (sorry, in advance), the scenery here acts as a reminder that there are plenty of fish in the sea.

His Girl Friday Valentine's Screening (Feb. 14)
If you want to have a shamelessly cheesy Valentine's Day, head to Rainbow Cinemas for a classic movie. His Girl Friday will be playing on the big screen and the theatre will be giving out free chocolates to moviegoers. This option is ideal for those trying to woo their lover on a budget as it's only $6 per couple.
