Ontario beach town known for summer vibes is a sleeper fall must-see
If Wasaga Beach only comes to mind when you're making summer plans, I'm sorry to tell you, but you're missing out on half the region's story.
Of course, the destination is known for summer sunsets along the shoreline, but Wasaga Beach has more to offer in the fall, long after you've said goodbye to the warmer weather.
Once the summer crowds disappear, the small township in Simcoe County comes to life with fall foliage thanks to its surrounding wilderness, offering scenic river views and plenty to do around town.
When exploring the town in the autumn season, start your adventure at Wasaga Beach Provincial Park for a stroll along its sprawling beachfront and a chance to explore the park, where winding trails run through forests, dunes, and wetlands.
With over 30 kilometres of trails to hike or bike, there are endless opportunities to connect with nature.

While you're there, take in the pine-oak savanna ecosystem surrounding the area, a rare mix of pine and oak trees growing over grasslands and dunes. You'll see a sight to behold as the oaks turn a blazing mix of reds and oranges to reflect fall.
Trust me when I say a fall visit to Wasaga Beach Provincial Park offers a whole new perspective on this little gem of a town.

The Nottawasaga River, which spans a total of 120 kilometres, is another reminder that Wasaga Beach is so much more than a beach destination. Running through the Wasaga region and into Georgian Bay, the river is surrounded by scenic landscapes and trails that are especially picturesque in the fall.
Canoe enthusiasts can easily access the river through the Woodland Drive Trailhead in Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. This road leads directly to the Nottawasaga River Loop and the famous sand dunes along the waterway.
And still, there's more. If you're feeling festive, you can plan your visit around the town's annual Pumpkin Trail event. During the Pumpkin Trail, locals take their jack-o'-lanterns to the local Oakview Trail and leave them on the ground, creating a lit-up trail for a truly atmospheric fall walk into the night.
For those who are interested, this year's Pumpkin Trail takes place on Nov. 1 and is completely free to attend.
So while this waterfront summer destination may feel like it's only worth the roughly two-hour drive in the summer, you may want to think again and start planning that day trip now. Sprawling dunes and forest trails set ablaze with vibrant foliage await you at Wasaga Beach in the fall.
