You can now unplug at a secluded spa retreat in the middle of nowhere — quite literally — at the Wilderness Retreat and Nordic Spa in the Ontario city of Kingsville.
This unique getaway offers what the owners call "the Nordic Spa experience you won't forget." Founded by husband-and-wife duo Dan and Shaye Sprague, the retreat guides guests through a wellness routine that goes beyond a traditional gym workout.
Tapping into the benefits of hydrotherapy and Scandinavian wellness practices, the couple brought their vision to Kingsville's Balkwill Woods, where visitors can now unwind at the West Woods Nordic Spa. The surrounding wilderness and therapeutic elements of hydrotherapy combine to create what owners hope is the ultimate rejuvenation pit stop.
The circuit cycle mirrors that of a traditional Scandinavian spa: sauna, cold plunge, rest, and repeat. Guests are encouraged to spend 15 minutes in the sauna to cleanse the body and bring it to a state of tranquillity, followed by a quick 30-second dip in the cold plunge. After that, guests can relax on the deck while taking in the tree-lined expanse. And if you're like me, the XL hammocks in the rest area will come as a welcome place to lounge.
But if the circuits are so familiar, what sets this retreat apart from the rest?
The location, for one, offers complete seclusion from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Guests can expect to encounter wildlife like deer and foxes during their stay.
Adding to that sense of seclusion, each booking includes a private cabin with its own sauna, cold plunge, and rest area designed for up to four adults.
Towels and robes are provided for convenience, but guests are encouraged to dress comfortably and bring their own swimwear for the circuits.
Each visit is capped at 2.5 hours, and the experience starts at $119.99 plus applicable taxes. Reservations can be made directly on the spa's official website.
The Wilderness Retreat and Nordic Spa is located at 1833 Road 3 W. in Kingsville, Ontario.
