You can now travel in a bougie pod on Toronto flights

If state-of-the-art, luxury travel is your thing, then you may want to add a Germany trip to your upcoming itinerary now that one international carrier is offering Toronto passengers a brand new flight option with some of the fanciest business-class pods available.

Even if you're a budget adventurer for whom bougie isn't necessarily in the cards, you can still get a taste of some of the head-turning new amenities included in Lufthansa's Allegris, which offers an upgraded experience across cabins on new Boeing 787-9 aircraft (or Airbus A350-900s, on other routes).

The first of the airline's Allegris flights from Canada just launched on Thursday, Oct. 9, connecting YYZ and Frankfurt. And, while almost all major industry players are regularly changing up their offerings to appeal to customers, the new Allegris seating concept is a big visual change you can feel immediately upon stepping foot on the plane.

The company touts more flexibility, privacy, comfort and personalization for Allegris flyers, especially in business class, where you can opt for extra space, an extra-long bed, or a suite-style layout that's ideal for couples, all with "infinitely adjustable seats" — think movable footrests, headrests, various types of lumbar support and, in a first for air travel generally, seat heating and cooling.

Privacy partitions on these flights have also been expanded to 114 cm high, and every seat in the house has equal "all aisle" access, which will be helpful when utilizing new round-the-clock in-flight service for meals and snacks.

There is also new mood lighting, entertainment features (via a 10-inch tablet at every business class seat), and even noise-cancelling headphones and wireless device charging, all built into your pod.

For those back in economy, there are some novel perks, too: namely, more ergonomically-designed seats, larger and clearer entertainment screens, and more personal space, including a more spacious extra legroom option. Premium economy also comes with integrated privacy screens, armrest cocktail trays and other modernizations.

Though it's not the home-away-from-home that business class offers before you even reach your destination, it's a notable improvement to the other options out there for the same route.
