Toronto Blue Jays' Trey Yesavage teases that he is working on a new pitch

Changes are coming for Trey Yesavage this offseason. 

It wasn't the season that Toronto Blue Jays fans expected, but there could be some exciting things on the horizon for the 2027 MLB season. There will certainly be some changes coming to the Jays in the form of free agency and potential trades, but that may not be all. 

Yesavage, who didn't quite have the dominant season that many hoped for, will be putting in the work to change up his game ahead of next season. Talking to reporters on Saturday, the 23-year-0ld mentioned that he wants to add another pitch into his arsenal. 

"Dabbling with a curveball and a two-seam, but we’ll see what works best," Yesavage told MLB.com's Keegan Matheson.

As it stands, Yesavage currently boasts a rotation of three distinct pitches, which includes a four-seam fastball, splitter, and slider. The deadliest of which is the splitter, which has become his go-to pitch to punch out batters early in his MLB career. 

If he can successfully add either a curveball or a two-seam fastball into that rotation, it will make things that much more difficult for batters facing him at the plate. That, however, will depend on whether or not he can successfully develop at least one of those pitches enough that he feels comfortable utilizing it in major league games. 

While it wasn't the rookie of the year season that many expected out of Yesavage, the former Blue Jays first-round pick still put up decent numbers in his first full MLB season. Through 20 starts, Yesavage finished with a 5-6 record, 3.69 ERA, and recorded 97 strikeouts. That was done despite missing 70 games with injuries. 

The goal going into next season is for Yesavage to stay healthy and take that next step to become one of Toronto's premier pitchers.
