Max Scherzer appears to have a secret nickname among his Toronto Blue Jays teammates

It appears as though Max Scherzer has a nickname among his Toronto Blue Jays teammates that many fans were unaware of.

Scherzer hit the mound on Sunday in what many believe will be the final start of his career. Should that be the case, he went out in fitting fashion, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned run in what wound up being a 5-1 victory for the Blue Jays.

While the outing was an extremely emotional one for Scherzer and the fan base, it may have also provided fans with a new nickname for the 42-year-old.

When exiting Monday's contest, fans noticed an unusual detail on catcher Brandon Valenzuela's wristband.

A catcher's wristband is essentially a cheat sheet with detailed scouting reports including opposing hitter tendencies. What made Valenzuela's noticeable was that he appeared to have the nickname "Pee Paw" written where you would normally write out your starting pitcher's name. 

While known to most as "Mad Max," there have been some select Blue Jays fans this season who have referred to Scherzer as Pee Paw due to the fact that he is one of the oldest players in the MLB. Many of those same fans have also recently been referring to George Springer as 'Unc Springer.'

"I'm dead," one individual wrote on X after seeing Valenzuela's wristband . "They've heard the fans."

"I'M DEAD THERE'S NO WAY," another said. 

Unfortunately for the Jays, their season came to an end Sunday night, as they missed the playoffs with a 79-83 record. They will hold their end-of-season media availabilities on Wednesday, which may give fans a chance to learn further about what appears to be a new nickname for Scherzer.
