First-ever PWHL All-Star game is coming to Toronto

The Professional Women's Hockey League is growing at a rapid rate, and on Thursday, the league announced some major news.

The first-ever PWHL All-Star Game is coming to Toronto, taking place March 7, 2027, at Scotiabank Arena.

The game will feature the league's biggest stars competing across four teams in a three-on-three tournament format.

The league has previously hosted a three-on-three PWHL showcase tournament in Toronto in the past few seasons, but it hasn't had an official All-Star game.

The players will apparently be divided across the four teams based on their nationality and their status in the league. The teams will be Canada, USA, International, and a team of rookies. 

Each team will feature 10 players - six forwards, three defencemen and one goaltender.

The All-Stars will be selected through a combination of fan, player, and media voting, while the reserve players will be selected by league officials.

Toronto was chosen as the inaugural host city, which felt only natural to league executives considering it was also the location of the first-ever PWHL game nearly three years ago between Toronto and New York.

The PWHL will open its fourth season this December with four new franchises making their debut: Detroit, Hamilton, Las Vegas, and San Jose.
