Sunkist oranges

We tested this zesty cupcake recipe from a new Canadian matchmaking game show

They say opposites attract, but is that the same when it comes to cooking? Well, Sunkist Growers has taken it upon themselves to prove this statement true with their brand-new game show, Sunkist Matchmakers

Bringing together their California-grown citrus with a mystery ingredient, Sunkist has challenged some of Canada's most beloved influencers to create a standout recipe or crafty centrepiece in under 40 minutes using Sunkist Navel oranges, Cara Cara oranges, and lemons.

And since unlikely matches are the name of the game for the Sunkist Matchmakers series, I got the opportunity to try out a fun cupcake recipe featuring a mystery ingredient from the Kid Party challenge. Let's see how it goes!

Cara Cara Orange Cupcakes with Marshmallow Frosting

This sweet Orange Cupcakes with Marshmallow Frosting recipe featuring seedlessly succulent Sunkist Cara Cara Oranges was created by Dash of Honey's Laura Beaule.

Perfect for a kid's birthday party, these cupcakes were easy to whip up in no time. Just a few baking ingredients — plus the zest and juice from a delicious pink Sunkist Cara Cara orange — was all it took to craft these beauties.

Sunkist orangesThe Greek yogurt makes sure these cupcakes stay extra moist, while the Sunkist Cara Cara orange juice packs a punch of sunshine in every bite.

Pro tip: zest your Sunkist Cara Cara orange before you juice it!

To make the cupcakes extra kid-friendly, Beaule used the unlikely match of marshmallows to create a signature icing and it was absolutely delicious. The creaminess of the marshmallow frosting combined with the sweet kick of the Sunkist Cara Cara orange took these cupcakes to the next level.

Adding a touch of whimsy, I finished off the cupcakes with a sprinkle of Sunkist Cara Cara orange zest on top — for a bit of decoration and an extra touch of zing on the palate.

All in all, I was ecstatic at how quickly this recipe came together and was extremely impressed with the versatility of the Sunkist Cara Cara orange.

Your delicious source of vitamins and minerals

Always full of freshness, Sunkist Cara Cara oranges are an excellent source of Vitamin C — an antioxidant that supports your immune system and promotes the production of collagen. This essential vitamin promotes wound healing and strengthens your skin's elasticity.

sunkist orangesNot only do nutritious California-grown Sunkist Cara Cara oranges offer 100 per cent of your daily Vitamin C intake, but they also contain important nutrients like folate, fibre, and potassium in every slice.

Fun fact: Sunkist Cara Cara oranges get their bright pink insides from the antioxidant lypocene, which is associated with heart and bone health benefits.
